Would I be just as well suited to load 10g,11g,12g, of H4227 in my 17M4 which is a typical 17AH load, or would I still be better off trying to build/buy a 17AH. I think I might be just as well off to do the 17AH load in my 17M4 shoot it and call it a done deal. Has anyone tried this setup before, and what were the results?? I am looking to duplicate a 17AH out of a 17M4 without having to get a 17AH rifle. Thanks for the replys - redfeather. |

Let your rifle tell you. It is hard to say from back here whether or not your rifle will shoot the reduced loads or the 4227. I know that JD shoots a load similar to what you are mentioning and seems to do real well with the reduced loads. A full case of powder is nice, but certainly not essential. The other thing that you may consider is pushing a heavier bullet at lower velocities. How about a 30 grain bullet - 10 twist should stabilize. Give the new 30 grain Starke a test and you might have something. I am not sure what you may be trying to accomplish by loading down, but the difference in recoil and muzzle blast will be negligible. It is doubtful that you would be able to distinguish between the two rounds in a real world situation. To me, the appeal of the hornet is cheap brass, little powder and extreme efficiency. It is a neat little round. |
