I was able to make several shots out to 400 yds with the 17 rem. using 22.4g of imr 4320 and 25g berger match hp. I was using 16g of h335 in the 17M4 with 20g hornady vmax's. I only tried some shots out to 300 yards with the 17M4 because there was some wind and I was having problems getting out to the 400 yard mark with it. The 17M4 is still a top favorite of mine because of the low recoil and low noise and with the scope at lower powers you can watch the bullet hit. I have always had trouble even at lower powers with the 17 rem. seeing the bullet hit. I can see them about half the time with the 17 rem that I was shooting which is the rem 700 VSS heavy barrel. The 17's still shot like a laser beam which is good for varmint shooting. Also, the 17's do not toss those PD's in the air 2-3 feet the way the 22-250 does. With the 17's they just pop and flop over, but every so often you do get a flying PD with the 17's just not often. My 17 experiment on a PD town was good, and I really like the 17's for shooting PD's as well as all other varmints. Thanks - redfeather.

You should have no problem getting out to 600 yards with the 25gr bullets. I have shot the 25gr at 600 and they did well. The 30gr would offer slightly better wind bucking ability at that distance.
The .17 cal is a great caliber which will force you to pay attention to the wind beyone 300 yards.
