Not sure that you could compare the two. The .17 Hornet has about twice the case capacity but is a fine round. I was shooting my .17 Hornet yesterday at the range and it is only a 10" barrel but was shooting the fireform loads at 3100+ fps with the 20 grain Starke's. The CCM brass is hard to find, but I believe that there is a guy who makes it from hornet brass somewhere. The best way to get information on the CCM brass would be to call Cooper firearms and ask them. Todd Kindler would also be a source of information. The .17 Squirrel might be closer to what you are looking for. It is a shortened .17 Hornet and would be more similar to the CCM but still a little bigger. One of these days, I plan on measuring the water capacity on all of hte .17's and posting them on the site for a comparison for folks.

I'm sure the 17 squirrel would be more compairable, but there is no way I will pay that kind of money for dyes....... Do you know what the noise is like with a 17 ccm. I have one, I just haven't fired it. I'm afraid of killing the value. I would like to get a second one to shoot, but the brass situation greatly concerns me..... Thanks again....jh

Not sure how much you can get CCM dies for but the .17 Squirrel reloading dies are only 108.00. The forming dies are more money but you wouldn't have to buy them. You can buy formed brass already for the squirrel. I am not sure if you could use a double end forming die like Bullberry offers, but I would be inclined to try that method myself. I am not sure how much CCM cases cost but I would bet that you could almost buy formed .17 squirrel cases for a similar price. just my .02.

Cooper has had reasonable supplies of the better
fiocci brass. 9.1 Gr. AA1680 20gr.Bergers & win pistol primers yield 3200fps with no undue pressure in my Cooper 38. Dies around, try Tom @ the Outdoorsman.

Thanks for the information. Tom Thomas at the Outdoorsman is a tremendous resource for small caliber stuff. His shop is a few hours from me and I will make it there someday. I have met him a few times at larger gun shows and am always tempted by the wonderful coopers. Some day, I will own one. I actually met Dan Cooper at Tom's booth last year at a large show.
