Hey Guys,
I finally got my new toy thanks to all of you! Couldn't resist Zanders special on VSS so I got one. Well I order all my supplies too but they were out of 25 gr. bullets so I got 20 gr V-max instead. Well I can find any reload data on those! Went to there website...NADA! So can you guys point me in the right direction on load data, seating depths, etc?
Thanks,
Dak

You can use the load data for the 25 grain bullets and increase it by a half of a grain or so depending on the powder. I think that you will find more than sufficient accuracy and velocity at those loads. As far as seating depth, you will struggle to reach the lands with the 25's much less with the 20's.

Whew! what a relief, I have a Stoney Point OAL tool and I was have a hell of a time getting it to work with that bullet. I find it odd that they designed the chamber so that the standard bullet (25gr.) can't get anywhere near the lands... Guess I should get my money back for the .17 stuff for the OAL tool!
Thanks,
Oh, use the same length as the 25gr. right?

E-mail Hornady...they'll send you some data on the 20 gr. V-max in .17 Rem.

Good luck Dakrat, make sure you measure the Freebore in that rifle. There are some out there with .70-.85" (yeah, almost an inch) of freebore. Mine has either .159 or .214" I have to try again to get a consistant length. Gary

Hey guys, who can tell me what the twist rate is in the new Zanders 17 Rem??? (9, 10, ???)

I got to shoot a brand new one today. Not bad for a factory rifle. It was shooting 3/4" right out of the box @ 80 yards. It did NOT like factory 25 gr loads, at all! They went 1 1/2". It did how ever like 25 gr Horn w/ moly and 4895.

Has anyone tried to shoot the 30 grainers? this may eat up some of that free bore....... Thanks jh

and think that you will like the 30 grain bullets. It should help to reach out farther to the lands - might even touch them (but don't tell remington or they may add freebore).

My VSS likes the Berger 30's, but I can't get anywhere near the lands. What exactly is "normal" freebore for the .17 Rem?
