First, I will state that I have experience with neither of these cartridges. I can only imagine that the .20 BR is overbore and that the .20 PPC is right behind it. The word overbore is often used to label something as a barrel burner, or in some other negative manner. Who is to say what is overbore? I guess that my point is, the only thing that matters is if the cartridge will meet your needs. There are some disadvantages to the hotrod cartridges such as the ones that you mentioned and there are also some advantages. You will have to decide what you can live with. Disadvantages first. They will copper foul more than say a .20 Vartarg (.221). Barrel life will be a little less. The barrel will heat up faster. They will use more powder. Recoil will be greater. Advantages. They will shoot a laser like trajectory. they will impress all your friends. You will be able to extend your effective range. Wind drift will be less. Now if I was to pick between the two that you mention, I would choose the .20 PPC for a couple of reasons. First, you will not get any noticable gain in velocity with the .20 BR. Second, the Lapua .220 Russian brass is as fine as it gets and will only require necking down a touch which can probably be done with the FL die. The BR would require necking down from 6mm in a couple of steps, but is still fine brass - Lapua.

I have the 20PPC and I really like it. I will have to agree with Jim on several points. My barrel is on an encore so I did not have the issue with the bolt. The 20PPC gains little over the Tatical 20 (20/223) The BR will gain nothing over the PPC. I have not shot 100 rds yet but I can tell you barrel heat is going to be bad. I have a untaperd 27" barrel and after 5 shots in 3min it is very warm. Accuracy seems great. I have not had a good day to shoot winds have been 10-20 mph. So far nothing over 1" at 100 regardless of wind or load. Nothing better that 1/2 so far but I Think it will be easy to accomplish. One thing I will say is that It kicks much more than I tought. There does not seem to be any chance to watch the impact of the bullet.

Full bull encore barrel at 27" and you say that you won't be able to spot your hits. WOW, that is a lot of recoil out of that little round. I had a 26" bull barrel in 6BR and know just how heavy that gun you have is.

Dont get me wrong the recoil is not bad at all. The gun just moves enough to get the gun off target. You just cant see the bullet make impact. I will say It is more recoil that I expected from a 33gr bullet. This has quickly became my favorite gun. You can just feel the power. The sound and seeing dirt fly as soon as the gun fires is great. I have thought of haveing a muzzel break installed so the gun does not move at all.

Gentlemen, Thank you for the input. I think the .20PPC is the way to go.

I have a 20br built on a rem788 action with a /.910 muzzle. rifle built by virgin valley. I have never shot a group over 1/3 inch at 100yards. I went squirrel hunting shooting them from 200-375 yards hit one a bit further but can't verify range approx. 450 all without sight adjustment. i am sighted dead on at 350 yards. My point is i witnessed every hit. I have a tasco japanese 8-32x44 scope religiously set at 18 power. I would consider a 20 ppc but honestly 4500 fps with great accuracy, an incredibly flat trajectory and just enough mass to make them fly is the ultimate recipe for squirrels. I think the .20 caliber is just inherently accurate no matter which case you stuff it in.
