I have heard of people doing this on a 77/22 hornet but not 22 mag the barrel is not threaded in on 10/22 77/22 rimfires plus you have the firing pin problem hope this helps the 77/22 hornet is really a different gun

I've managed to fire a few rounds of the 22 Epperson Cricket from a standard 10/22 with a cobbled together "Centerfire equivalent" bolt, but I've never hreard of anyone doing it with the 10/22 Mag. You're right, finding a centerire bolt IS the problem, so is finding anyone to cut you one from scratch. Trust me, I've been looking for one for a while now with little success. Currently I'm leaning toward making a bolt with cuts for a straight vertical feed system, coupled with an adaptor to feed from a standard pistol stack mag. This avoids all the funky set ups to cut the strange angles to feed from the rotory Mag. The 22 Epperson Cricket is a 22 loaded into a necked down 25ACP case. The Ackly Hornet might have a bit too much recoil for a straight blowback action though.

Thanks for the input. Could anyone answer this for me...... How does the OAL of the 22 Mag RF and the 17 Ack Hornet compare? (My books are in storage) Will a 22 Hornet Mag (77/22) physically fit in a 10/22 Mag well? Are they close??? I know that this would not be an easy project, but what a calling rifle! Squirrels to yotes.........
Does anyone produce a 17 bullet that has a FMJ? Would be nice for the edible stuff....... Thanks again. jh

Well Ruger does make a magazine for the Hornet round, for the 77 series. And I don't think it fits in the 10/22 mag magazine well. But then again, I haven't checked either.

Sounds like the new .17 Caliber rimfire will be just what the doctor ordered. It is on the .22WMR case and should work in a rotary clip for the 10/22 mag - just a simple matter of the aftermarket gang making a barrel for the gun. The only problem would be that it isn't reloadable - but if it is cheap enough and performs well, I certainly won't complain since I have plenty enough stuff to reload for.
