Foxes on the mind

I went out this morning to try to catch with mr. sly fox. I was carrying the .17 Rem and overlooking a field bottom that has been active with foxes for the past week or so - deer hunting buddies had been seeing them all week. I set up overlooking the field and spotted one with the binoculars before I could see him with bare eyes. I could see him in the scope but couldn't get a shot off before he meandered back into the woods. It was real dark but I could sillouette his image in the field and could see that tell tale white tail tip as bright as day in the scope. If I would have been thinking, I would have whistled to stop him, but I can only say what if now. Didn't see anymore for the rest of the morning. I tried some calling with a cottontail distress call but have had little luck as it is real warm still.

I'm with ya Jim,

I do a lot of hunting up here in AK, black tails high up in the mountains to ducks on the rocky shorelines and everything in between, but I really look foreward to chasing fox during the cold months. I am not sure what it is about them that gets me so fired up but it is my favorite hunting.

I have been doing pretty well so far this season , connecting on a few, and funny/frustraiting encounters with many more than we ever get a shot at. Not sure how they are anywhere else, but up here they get big and are smart as can be, probably due to pressure. I think its the time of year , and the ammount of time spent outdoors chasing them that makes it so enjoyable for me. every one that I can get (wich aint a whole lot) is just a bonus.

I am heading out in the morning , we have another fresh snow falling and the weather calls for clear and sunny conditions for the next three days, so I will be out there as much as work permits 17 in hand.

Hopefully I will have some fox pics and results of the 17 rem and m4 blue dot loads to share soon.

good hunting.
