View Full Version : Learned something about 788/222 clip

I have a Rem 788 in 222 Rem. I have been playing with making a 222 rifle into
a 25-222. Not really thinking of doing it to the 788 but found for the clip it
might not be a good idea.

If you neck up 222 case and seat a 25 caliber bullet in it then place it in the
top of the clip all looks good. But if you try to push it down in the clip you find
that case neck is slightly too big and keeps the cartridge from moving freely
in and down in the clip.

The clip it itself has dented inward ridges at about the spot of the 222 neck to help guide the cartridge and to keep it from being too loose in the clip. I think if one was to neck up to a 6mm bullet it might well be ok but for a 25-222 it does not work so good.

Luckily I am not planning on converting the 788. Anyway was thought I would share that to anyone who might get this idea. I guess one could alter the clip but I am not sure that is a good idea from looking at it.
