about a .25 mile from the house yesterday, looks like him and i will be matching wits when the fur season opens in nov. never hunted reds before should more of a challenge than the grays.
who knows , maybe I'll be able to ligimately keep my screen handle. anyone have any suggestions as to the best call to use for reds?

then I have to decide which small caliber to shoot it with, velociraptor (25 gr vmax @3200 fps), (20 gr vmax @3600 fps)save the pelt, viper(20 gr vmax @4000 fps) save the pelt, or (204 ruger 32 gr vmax @ 4100 fps) save the pieces.

Reds respond very quickly to a mouth blown call that has a high pitch squeel.
They're quick to circle till the wind is in their favor.
Use a low velocity calibre (under 3300 fps) 17HMR is perfect.
Stay away from shoulder shots...aim behind the shoulder
Do you just want me to come out there...and show you?

Hummmm, now how did i come up with my handle? Escapes me at the moment.

how do the red fox respond to other red fox sounds, such as a baby in distress or two reds duking it out?

Hey Bob,
I've used the two fox fighting during the breading season with some success, but over all prefer the high pitched sounds - Birds, cottontail done high on the read, etc. On your advice, I tried the 25gr at a bit over 3000 a couple of seasons ago and it worked great. I vote Velociraptor!

thanks John for the advice, you know i will have to use the velociraptor since
it is need of being bloodied , fox blood that is.
i did find these sounds and have the ability to down load them to my foxpro. logic say's that beside a red fox, even an old coyote or ill tempered gray fox might just come a running to a young red fox in distress.

send me an email at moorem (at) adelphia (dot) net. I've got a Johnny Stewart Red fox calls CD that I don't need anymore. You're more than welcome to it if you want. I'm not versed on such things, but it says on the cover that it contains CD and MP3 audio files. Let me know.
