223 Ackley Improved (40 deg)
Powder: H335 29.3 grns (start at 28.0 and work up)
Bullet: 40 grn Nosler BT
Case: formed from Winchester
Primer: Remington 7.5
OAL: 0.015 off the lands
In a 24 inch barrel I am getting 3840 fps with outstanding accuracy. There is very little data available for this cartridge and it would be nice to have others share their favorite loads.

I am shooting VV133 and it is THE powder for the 223 AI. Have tried a bunch. Fast, accurate, clean. Using a 50g Vmax.

I had an AI many years ago and have lost my load data in one of several house moves over the last 10 years.
From what I can remember I used Sako factory .223 50 or 52 HP and I picked up a case on clearance of Federal " american eagle" brand 50 grain HP
thought it would give me a heap of brass and easy fireforming as I would hunt with it while forming brass the Sako was under MOA but group pattern was inconsistant in how it printed.
So after he sako was used up I changed over to the federal- WOW- for a lightly trued and bedded with a 2 lb trigger R700 SA it grouped consitantly with nice round patterns under 0.75 moa but over 0.6.
I was very new to reloading then and in a by line article in a local magazine it suggested trying re-seating the factory projectile in factory ammo to suit your rifles throating etc.
I paid my cousin in freddo frogs to use an RCBS hammer to lengthen the projectile in the case which I reseated to 25 thou off the lands.
I was going to start at 25 thou and go closer to the jam 2.5 thou at a time till I found the sweet spot--20 thou was it.
nice consistant groups 0.3moa wide with 0.6 vertical.
I shot several cases of the American eagle - swearing i would never sell this rifle. but in a moment of weakness when someone was offering me much too many $$ for it and I was short $$ to build some big banget that i have since sold and forgotten- I sold it. I have regretted that decision for 10 years or more.
SCN has had a few articles on the .223 Fall 2001 and summer 2004.

are link pages from the bottom of the 6mmbr site write up on the 223 and the AI

I did try reloading for it using benchmark and 60 grain sierra HP's but for the type of shooting I was doing at the time it wasn't worth the effort. I was culling pest animals under the spotlight- legal here in Australia with the correct Govt permits- 90% of my shots were 200 or closer

BTW I still have heaps of the federal Red belt sliders in .223 anyone want to swap me some for .308 sized ones??
