Is there a difference in the cores? One size fits all? Just cut to length?
Never gave it much thought. Just open a box and start loading.

Yes, there is a difference.Squirt die or core form die determines circumference of the lead core. In the .224 and .243 the core diameter is the same.Cores are cut to different length to vary the weight. You must use a appropriate jacket length for the bullet weight . A VLD style bullet uses a longer jacket. The squirt die bleeds off the lead when pressure is applied with the swaging press. It produces lead cores the same weight + or - .Jacket weight + lead core equals bullet weight.
The lead wire is purchased on spools . It is availble in different outside diameter for various calibers. You can also cast it molds.
