Not the monster I was after but with pea soup fog and thick brush I didn't have a lot of time to be choosy. 40 yards with my dad's ole 280 mtn rifle.

Nice buck.
I killed several blacktails with a 280 Remington classic ( actually marked 7mm rem express), until I decided I needed flatter shooting rifles for the longer shots in open area's. And also used it for my first 2 mule deer in Idaho. Almost forgot about those. I changed from Sierra gamekings to Nosler partitions. Long story.

This rifle loves 140 partitions. My dad's working load was 150 fps faster than his 7mag with 10-15 gr less powder! The 280's like a mag without the belt. But I ran out and a bud gave me a pile of the 154 Hornady's. They shoot just about as good, even with the pencil barrel...under 3/4" if I don't get her hot.

Nice buck, congrats!
I always wanted a .280. Another .06 wildcat that started out life down-loaded for the 740 and 760 Remingtons, later loaded up for the bolt guns and renamed the .7mm Express. Kinney Jarret made a cottage industry out of the .280AI in his "Beanfield Rifles". Great round!! Great rifle too, the bride hunts with a 7mm08 in a Mountain Rifle and it's a real shooter.

Good looking buck...congratulations. Not exactly prime hunting conditions (weather wise) in Pa this year.

That is a great buck. Congrats. I've hunted 4 days in pa and haven't seen a buck yet. Neighbor shot a huge 8 you could sit inside his rack. My treestand is in a tree 10 yds from a tree that buck rubed up. Tree is so big I can't wrap my hands around it. Haven't seen anything like it before.
