And blessed me with a nice buck. It's been a poor season, between heat, wind and rain. My worst In several years. I didn't see much this morning. Being the peak of the rut you would have thought there'd be more activiy. I almost hung it up at 8:45 but something told me to stay. Didn't have much else to do anyway.

About 9:30 I caught movement. A deer was parallelling my stand about 80 yards out. I thought I saw horn so I hit the grunt tube and he stopped. Grunted again and he continued walking. One more grunt and he stopped. I did a snort wheeze with my mouth and that pissed him off. He came to my stand on a string. At 16 yards he stopped...of course with a limb in the way. He stutter stepped about a half a foot, giving me an opening.

WHACK! Perfect lung shot. As he ran by my tree I could see blood pouring out. He passed and stopped at 25 yards, stumbled and fell over. It was quicker than you just read this.

Not my biggest, but too big to pass here. Now the work begins.

That's a fine buck, Charlie! Thanks for sharing the experience with all of us. Sometimes it pays off to listen to that little voice inside that too often is ignored. :)

no, but it was a small caliber freezer stuffer...compared to yours.

Freezer stuffers come in all sizes Charlie and IMO it's totally quality and not quantity that matters. My boy had a full freezer and a most of a meat-locker box full a that bull in the picture I showed. He arrowed it while it was actively engaged in a full on rut fight (great for real hunting story), but each and every bite a that bull tasted worse than the last one "YUUCK!". I'll take a whitetail full a tasty to bull elk full a nasty any day :()! The steaks on that grill look way tasty Charlie :)!!

Here in Ohio, I can't begin to tell you how many times I have heard of
whitetail bucks not being as good eating as does.
I have not found this to be true. Many of the big older bucks have been
the best table fare.
Even better than does.

Charlie. That's a fine deer in anybody's book. Kenny
