Those of you who attended the small caliber shoot met my friend Mark and his boy Hunter. Well...Hunter had a GREAT weekend. Killed his first deer yesterday In the MD youth hunt. Big doe 85 yds thru woods. Laid her right out with the 7-30 waters. Mark had to go to a waterfowl expo today and asked me to sit with him. Gladly I did.

We got on stand and had a spike come in about 8AM. Mark was still nearby in truck and I texted him to see if he should shoot. The spike got downwind before he answered. Not 5 min later this buck shows up. Came right in. Hunter had to sit on my lap to get over the shooting rail. Shot him at 20 yards with his muzzleloader. Only went about 50 yards. Great thing was, it was early and Mark was still nearby helping another lucky hunter who got her first deer. He got to come over and help get it out.

Great day indeed. And Mr Jim, if you're out there, thank your lovely wife Gretchen, for cooking us all a big breakfast!

That's awesome! There's nothing like getting kids involved in the shooting sports. We've got a youth season in Oklahoma and a buddy & I have taken kids for the last 8 years. 2016 got 9 kiddos (7 boys, 2 girls) 5 bucks and 3 turkeys. Was a great time for all. Congrats to Hunter

Nice story, but, sorry to say, I don't like how the gun's laid out.

Congrats Hunter and the coach that take these boys and girls.

Some of these kids won't get to go if we don't take them.

I buy license and permits, clothes, furnish guns blind's transportation.

Both of my" kid's" got deer the last two days and the even let me take

a 150yd shot and I got some good eating for sure. Button buck.

I should get a picture or two up in a day or so.

My 14 yr old neighbor got a nice buck, His first in three years trying. Kenny

Good job Kenny. That's our future. My granddaughter is almost 5. She asked where I was last week. My wife told her "pap's hunting". She said "well...I wanna go hunting with pap". I sure can't wait to take her in a few years!:D Still trying to decide if we give her the pretty pink Cricket rifle for Christmas this year or not. May start with the BB gun next summer first.

In the meantime, I've been looking for a local kid that has no one to take him/her. I'd love to be able to pass it on to another young hunter or two.
