I have inherited my uncle's Winchester High Wall in .219 Zipper. Formed cases today. I measured the barrel twice, and its a 16" twist. I think that will probably rule out 50 caliber spitzers. Am thinking of 40 or 45gr V-Max. Does anyone here have experience with slow twist rifles?

in 219 Improved Zipper. The longer plastic tipped 50's and up might give you troubles. I found that the various old flat base lead tips shot well in 50 gr form, and although antiquated by todays standards, I used a LOT of the old Sierra 50 gr semi-pointeds. The may not be as flat as the sleek sexy bullets, but they were flat enough, and they were sure little bombs. Plus they were very accurate. I never got to try the plastic tipped 40's in mine, although they shot like a house afire in my 1-16 Hornet. I did use the 45 gr Hornady Spire point, and the 40 gr Sierra HP aand they both worked. Great classic rifle in a neat old caliber. Have Fun,. -John

... worked great in my 16 twist 22 Hornet. Was not difficult to get 5 shot groups in the 5's, once I got the hang of it.

The Zipper is very cool. I don't know first hand about the slow twist but if you have the 50's I would go ahead and shoot a few and see what happens.
My buddy has an old Krag that had been rebarreled to .219 Zipper Imp but not sure what the twist is, sure is a bitchin old rifle!

You may even find it to be .223, it's probably an old Hornet bbl. I have one and Calhoon 37gr hp's work very well in it.

Tim,

It is a .223 barrel. Have some 40gr VMax to try. Will try to order some Calhouns soon. Thanks for the tip.
