Transferred back to Alaska this summer. Being back in AK has been good to me. Three blacktail deer, a medium black bear, and a mountain goat. Sheep hunting was a bust. Never saw a legal ram. We only killed a handful of ptarmigan on that hunt. Shane and I helped a buddy pack out his bull moose.

I can see why you like being back in Alaska. Thanks for sharing those photo's. Made about four trips there hunting and some fishing, back in the late 60' to the early 80's. Dall, moose, bear and fish. So know why and how you enjoy it. Now to old for trips like that any longer. Bill K :)

I'm not familiar with the long range handgun that your packing. Could you fill me in?

That's a Remington XP-100 chambered in 284win. I've got a few different ones to choose from but that particular one is the lightest I've built. I'm shooting 142gr Lehigh controlled chaos bullets.

I've had 6 xp's but I didn't recognize the stock. Where did you get the stock and the bipod setup? Could you post a little better pic? I have a machine shop and might get some ideas from your setup. Also, what scope are you using?

I built the whole rig, including the stock and bipod. I'll see if I have a better picture of the stock somewhere. I wouldn't build another like it.

The only way it could be better is when you can bring along your sons.
What a great way to build memories.Bet the 7mm Dakota is a bit heavier:D
Perhaps a group picture of all your XP’s would be nice,do you have a wide angle lens for your camera

Matt,
I bet you've got more than I do. Think I only have 6 or so. They are all switch barrels so I have a pile of barrels and can shoot a bunch of different cartridges.

The centergrip Dakota is about double the weight of that 284. Gonna see if we can get Henry out there this spring for a black bear and maybe try for an alpine buck in August.

Glad to hear Henry will be going out for spring bear and a buck later in the fall.:)
I have 6 or 7 XP’s and I’ve been buying components to build a s/s 700 in an XP stock, not sure if that counts.I sorely need to build a 6Dasher XP also.
Lots of plans, not enough time.Glad I got my daughter out and shooting the Varmint Special XP,she enjoyed it and wants to go with me to get a coyote, hopefully my calling skills haven’t gotten too rusty.

That's awesome Matt! We're working on getting behind the glass consistently. They did pretty darn good the other day at the range. They were busting pigeons with almost every shot from my 17ah Browning.

You NEED a dasher xp!

Reactive targets are great to keep youngsters interested in shooting.I kinda like ‘em too,and I ain’t a youngin anymore :D
Your right about the Dasher, really thought I’d have one by now, guess it isn’t gonna build itself:eek:Been thinking the S/S single shot 700 might just get used for that.

Build it! I really enjoyed my benchrest 6 dasher xp. Took my longest prairie dog to date with it. 1292yards. It was a good shooting rig. Won some prizes with it at the MOA shoots the two years I went out there
