I am looking to buy a Remington 700 with a 308 bolt face. I am building a rifle on a 40X stock and am in need of a donor action. Any condition except for rust will be considered. I have a machine shop and the tooling for truing up these actions plus the action will be cerakoted before assembly. I would be interested in complete gun or just the action.
I'm not interested in actions that already have work done.

Thanks for looking!

Whatcha got?

Buds has various new 700 actions,I recently got two S/S actions with .473 bolt faces for less than $400- each which are single shot by the way.

Bud's guns.com. To place an order you have to register and get a pass
word. Very nice to deal with.

I needed a donor 700 SA & I found that they are hard to find at a reasonable price. I bought a new 700 ADL in .308 on sale at Academy (a local box store) for $379. I had the barrel carefully removed not to scratch. I sold the barrel as a brand new take-off for close to $400. I essentially got a free action! It's important to note that the barrel caliber is very important for take-off resale. For instance, at the time, 7mm-08 barrels were bringing only $100 to $150.

Good luck on your project!

$379 is Academy's every day price on 700 ADL rifles.

$400 for a take-off factory barrel? YOWSA..!! Does the guy who bought it need a bridge? I have a great big one in Arizona for sale........for cheap.......... He has to move it, however.

I know, I was shocked too. I started the Ebay auction at $100. I received positive feedback at end, so the fella was happy. This was back when long range "gong" shooting was a starting rage. I did a quick check on Ebay & it looks like a 6.5 CM would be the take-off barrel of choice now. Seems like $200 to $250 would be a reasonable expectation.

FWIW & YMMV :D

No way someone would pay $438.00 for a factory 308 barrel, unless they were clueless.

Cabela's $349.88 with scope. Peddle the barrel, scope and trigger (the stocks go in the recycle bin) and net you'll be less than $300.

And Whoa, a factory barrel isn't worth more than a hundred bucks. I've sold a few for $50 to $100 and some I gave away.

Hog Patrol has the right idea. The Cabelas deal has only 2 calibers available. For the short action you'd buy the .243. On Ebay the barrel will bring $150, scope & rings $50, trigger $25 & if you are lucky $10 for the stock. That's $235 less about $35 to Ebay/PP as blood money. Buyers pay the shipping. So figure $200 against the original purchase. BTW: people are paying good money for T/O barrels that are used too, if they are in the caliber they want. I know it's crazy. The $438 I got on my deal includes shipping & w/o fees, so I only got the action for free. Check out this link to see what has sold recently.
