I haven't been able to find any load data for the 25 G VMAX. I would like to use Varget, H380, H335.

Anybody have some experience with these powders and bullet?

This is what I got from Hodgon customer support...

You can safely use the 25 grain HP data to work up with your VMAX bullet. Start low and work up.

I used some N-135 in my .17 Remington with a 1 in 9" twist super match grade 3-groove Pac-Nor barrel. I ran a couple hundred bullets with that powder and also tried some Varget. I had decent groups using a variety of powder charges--they included 23.5, 23.6, 23.7, 23.8, and 24.0 gr. I hit a plateau in velocity with the 24.0 gr. load.

I had a few of those 25 gr. V-Max bullets tumble on the way to the target!!  My barrel was copper-free, so I don't know what happened with those bullets.

I also have a .17 Remington with a 1 in 9" twist 4-groove Lilja barrel. I used 24.3 gr. of Varget and the 25 gr. V-Max and 23.0 gr. of H4895 too. I was getting about 3,842 fps at 12 feet from the muzzle with the H4895 load and 3,900 fps at 12 feet from the muzzle with the Varget load. Accuarcy with both of those loads on my best day was under .300".

True, using 17 Rem starting loads, work up and no problems.... I have net seen some of the pressure problems I first heard of between the shorter HP and the longer V-Max...

is H322. The 17 Rem is really finicky when it comes to powder fouling and how it detracts from accuracy as the round count goes up inbetween cleanings. If you start off at 21.0g of H322 and go up to 22.5, I think that you will find a sweet spot where you will be shooting bug holes at 3850 fps mile mark.

Cleaning frequency with waxed 25g Berger bullets with the above load was in the 125 round area, huge improvment over the load of 28.0g of 760 that I had been shooting where the bullets started hitting the gound at somewhere around 65 rounds down the tube.

Thanks for the good info ackleyman... I used H-322 in my 17 Jet but have never tried it in any of the 17 rems. I might have to try it someday and see how it works compared to Ramshot Tac I am using in the riffle and X-Terminator in my 14" barrel.
