Good day Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am pretty new here but not new to reloading. The subject gun is a Contender with a new factory 14" TC barrel in 17 Rem. I am using RCBS dies and Remington cases. The cases have been sized, trimmed to min. length with the pockets uniformed. For bullets I have Hornady 25 gr. HP and Berger 30 gr. MEF HP's. Powder on hand is: aa2230-c, aa2200, h335, h4198, IMR: 4064, 4320, 4350, 3031, 4831, 4759. Primers are Federal 205m.

I have shot loads with H335 from 19-22 grs but was not impressed with the accuracy at 100 yds and got a 6" fireball out of the barrel with each shot. Is my choice of powder too slow for the short barrel? Could someone provide some pointer tips?

Thanks in advance,

Robert

Welcome to the site... there are a lot of knowledgeable and skillful guys here (I'm not one of em)

I had great success with my 14” factory barrel using Ramshot X-Terminator. This was before anyone listed a load for it like you will find listed here…

Yes the big fireball does happen and what I found out with my 14”, 17 AH using 1680 was that the fireball got smaller when approaching the max load???

According to this burn-rate chart

http://www.ramshot.com/powders/burnrate.php

AA 2230 (not sure what the *c* is) falls in real close to X-Term… It might be worth a try but I can not recommend a starting load as I have no idea how 2230c burns…
