Would like to have loading information on the 17-222 Remington. Primarily on the 25 grain bullet. Information with accuracy, velocity and powder used. Have a friend that lives 30 miles east of Seattle is trying to convince me the 17-222 would be a better choice over the 17 Remington. Less powder with almost the same performance. Besides it's a 'wildcat' and not when one of those 'factory' rifles. If the wife only knew what this 'friend' has cost me over the last two years, she would not be a happy camper. But I am...
Thanks
Dick

I don't have any load data, but I do have some other info for you. After you get that 17-222 dialed in you need to get it a mate, I'd like to recommend the 20-223. ;)

Start with about 18.5 grains of N-133 for the 25s. Should find a max right around < 20 at 4000 +/- fps. Benchmark worked really well with 20s. Both gave 90% plus load density. I used Win brass and Fed 205s.

Dick, I have had great success with Ramshot Tac from about 3850 to 4150 fps. I am using the high end load with 25 gr V-Maxes and it is awesome on PDs!! Barrel stays pretty clean and I have no reason to switch…

It wasn’t worth a hoot with the 30s though; 3500 fps seemed to be near a max load. I might revisit this again this summer???

The only other powder I tried was Benchmark, I heard it was really good but really didn’t give it a chance…

someday we will have to meet!

Dick,

I've got a 17-222 built on a Sako 461 action that I been shooting for about a year now. Have experimented with only a few powders...fewer bullet types. Ultimately, settled on a Berger 25 Gr. HP match (varmint) over 20.2 grains of Benchmark. Shoots 1/2 MOA at 100 yds. However, the Hornady V-Maxes keyhole out of my barrel...twist rate is right on the borderline for this length bullet. No matter...the 25 gr. Bergers are lethal on coyotes!
