H380 and 25 gr. V-max in .17 Rem

Hey Guys!! First time poster, but been a 'lurker' for a couple of weeks. Anybody got any experience with loading a 25 grain V-Max and H380 in a .17 Remington???

Been working up loads in this old (but new to me) .17 Rem in a 700 BDL

Shoots pretty good, but some horizontal stringing on the v-max's... also loaded some 25 grain Bergers that showed very pronounced vertical stringing. Both bullets shot around 3/4"..... in 2 very different POI's

Tried it but not with v max 25's. Only 25 Hor HP's

Never shot the Hornady HP, just the V-Max and the Berger 25 gr. Match HP

Best I could get with the 16" AR barrell was around .700 using around 25.9 gr H 380..
Berger 25 grainers were about the same..
Not really what I was looking for, but not that bad either..

OG, that is about what i am getting now out of my 700. Have not thought much about the AR platform until recently.... but a .223 and a .17 in a self-loader would be pretty sweet. I guess further testing will be required:)

OG sorry to resurrect an old thread. I use H380 in my rem700 with Pac-Nor barrel. 24.5gr behind a 25gr Hornady hollowpoint. It works well but the powder is quite dirty.

2506........I,ve tried 4 to 5 different powders,380 included but my favorite and most accurate loading is ..24.2 grs of IMR4320 with a Berger MEF in 25grs and Rem 71/2 primers. I,m shooting a CZ Varmint 527 with 24x Leupold in .17Remington..

For me the Hornady 25gr V-maxs and HPs just were not as accurate as the Berger MEFs..in my rifle...

In my CZ 527 Varmint (17 Rem)I am shooting IMR 4064 22 grs w/ 25gr Moly Coated HP Hornadys. This has been a great load so far..........
