Has anyone found a good load for the hornet using the 36gr Barnes Varmint Grenade. I'm thinking this combination may be just the ticket for spring beaver.

Thanks

I have never seen any post on any board where anyone has been able to get them to shoot. You could be the first in the free world to find a load they like. Let us know. Larry

I couldn't get them to work in a hornet and called Barnes. The tech told me that they would not work in a hornet and any further effort was a waste of time. He was quite apologetic but said they simply will not stabilize at hornet velocities.

I sent Barnes an email and they said they have data for a 1:14 twist but not the older 1:16. I'll call tomorrow and see what they have to say..

I tried them in a .221 and was not impressed. My normal load of 19 gr RL7 with 40 gr BK just vaporizes gophers. With the 36 Varmint Grenades sometimes they would kinda blow up gophers and most times they would go right through them like a round nose .22 rimfire. I asked on the Varmint Hunters forum if anybody had similar results and several people did. Some guy said they worked good in a 22-250. I haven't tried them at super high velocity yet. good luck

I have some good groups from a .223 with 1 in 12 twist. On last weeks pdog trip I wasn't impressed with the bullet. Most shots on small dogs would pass right through.
I going to try the 22-250 route next.

That was me. I got them to work in the 22-250 after about 30 load attempts. I tried them in 22 hornet and got 5" groups at 50yards. Dont waste your time.

I used the 35gr V-max this weekend on ground squirrels and they did a nice job. I'd buy those instead for beaver.
