This is something I have been working on for a long time, and finally have it all together and in the process of testing loads. This is a trued Remington short action; it was a BDL but I converted it to a single shot with a Sinclair benchrest follower. It has been rebarreled by Bullberry in 22-250 and bedded in to a Cooper model 21 factory stock that I got from a friend. Jim Caudill here in Ohio did all of the Smitty work bedding the stock and he pinned in the follower. This thing shoots like nothing I have ever owned...every load that I test is under 1/2 MOA at 100, and several have been under 1/4. I'll be sure to post some photo's of the targets once I have a chance to do some further testing. http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff350/rbeckwith76/Rem7005.jpg

Bullberry did the rebarrel for me with their 24 inch varmint taper, stainless barrel finished in their gloss blue finish that is absolutely flawless.

Jim Caudill, I was trying to think of that name a few weeks ago and struck out. He does good work. Does his business card say "Mauserman" on it?

Yes, Jim Caudill is known as the "Mauser Man". I guess that is his specialty, but he has also done work on a Rem 700 in 6BR for my Father that turned out excellent as well so I know that he does good work with Rem's. Everyone I know that has had work done by Jim has raved about the quality.

Finally have this rig shooting the way that I always knew that it could. Now that I have my hands on some Lapua brass I have been able to push it a little more with the velocities and the pressures. I was shocked at the difference that just the new brass had on the performance of this rifle. This thing shoots like this all day long with 38.0 gr. of Varget, a CCI BR-2 Primer, Lapua brass and 40 gr. Berger varmint bullets seated with a 15 thou jump. I have also recently upgraded the glass to a Sightron SIII 6-24, which I think makes a big difference from that Weaver grand slam as well. 5 rounds, 100 yards off a sandbag!

I really like the looks of that stock.

I'm surprised that stock makers don't make a Cooper style Varmint stock. That straight comb classic style with their forearm flair is a winner. You would think that Wenigs//Richards/Boyds/Bell&Carlson etc would see that and get away from some of their mundane and flat boring designs. I've thought about taking a Cooper stock off of one of my rifles, send it to Wenigs with a blank and turn me a stock with no inlet. Take it to my stock guy to use for a heavy barrel CZ 527........until I add up all the costs and what my Cooper stock would look like when I get it back

A friend of mine has the duplicate pattern that he can run for the Cooper varminter with a remington inlet. I sold one a couple weeks ago. If any one is interested I can get you his number.

Dave is that the same stock guy that is always at the Lima gun show? Jeremy

No he usually sets up at the O.G.C.A in Wilmington and at Kelbly's during the Super Shoot. His name is John Maxon.
I think he is supposed to have another one of his guns that he has done on the cover of Precision Shooting magazine in the next month or so.

Dave, can your friend do the Varminter stock with no inletting? I have a L461BR I need to restock, and I love the Cooper Varminter stock. If so, please post or send in a PM. I am in Indy, so if he is near you it would be wonderful to not have to ship things.

P.S. Used to visit WPAFB often 15-20 years ago, and stopped in your shop many times. Nice place.

I know he has several patterns for the smaller Sako's so he may have one on the Cooper design. I will see him on Sun at one of our Varmint matches and ask him if he can do it with the Sako inlet or without any.

Thanks, I appreciate it. This is a L461 single shot (BR action), no magazine, no traditional hinged floorplate. It's a bit of a rarity. According to Kevin G., there were also two variants/designs to the bottom metal on it. As I recall, mine is the straight, not the "lollipop" design.

I have that action in a L461 and short of finding a A1 PPC stock and inletting for that bottom metal going custom is your only option. I ended up buying a L46 position stock for 50.00 here from a member and doing a lot of whittling and bedding compound work on it. That action in a Cooper stock would be nice.

Thanks for the input. I know it will be a custom job, unless I get very lucky. I have the original stock, but I want something with a wider forearm to shoot off the bench better. It now sports a PacNor Super Match in 17 Mach IV.
