I would like to know if I could use a standard .223 Remington seating die to seat bullets in 20 Practical cases.

I read where it was recommended that a Competition seating die be used ( but I believe that's because it was what was in his inventory at the time ).

Thanks for the heads up.
I am already up to speed on that ( read and watched several times).
I just don't see the need for the expensive micrometer seater.
I understand the necessity for the bushing dies.

I don't think it would matter. I used a 22 BR regular (as in not a competition) seating die to seat bullets for my 20 BR w/o any problems. I never rolled one under a concentricity gauge, but it shot tight groups, so I wasn't too concerned. I asked Dan C. about it one time, and he said it was fine, so that was good enough for me. You've got nothing to lose by trying.

When I wrote the original 20 Practical article I used what I had and that was the Redding 223 Comp seater. But you can use any 223, 222, or 221 seating die for a 20 Practical. So just use what you have.

The best 20 caliber seating die made today is the Redding 20 VT Comp seater. This one seating die will seat almost all of the small bolt face 20s perfectly.

I am guess a .204 could be used too?

No. it could not. You need a seater that is the same length or SHORTER than the cartidge that you are trying to seat.

You could use the Hornady 204 seater as it's not cartridge specific. I've used mine on a Tac 20 and a 20VT in a pinch.

I've used my .223 seating die with my TAC 20 it's shot some of the best groups I've gotten with the gun using that die???????

Chuck is correct. The design of the Hornady allows this. These are actually pretty nice seaters for the money.
