I built a 6TCU on an 8 twist Brux with the idea of shooting 95gr Bergers over distance. Havent managed anything beyond 200 yet but it gets to 200 very accurately. I used Hodgdons 6X45 data.... BLC-2 works the best.

The first year that I was series about woodchucks was with a 6 TCU built by bullberry on a Rem 722 action with a 22 inch barrel with12 twist. Took 145 chucks from 75 to 400 plus yards with 70 b-tips at 3200 +fps. 55 gr. bullets can get 3700 fps and shoot under 1/2 in at 100 yards. The 6 PPC makes a excellent varmint round, and is dead accurate.

I have no idea. The 70 B-Tips seated at the lands had enough in the case for a good hold. I know that don't help a bit. The 55 B-Tips wouldn't come close to being in the case. I started with this before I kept OAL records.

i shoot a 6x45, awsome cartridge for everthing up to and including whitetail deer. choose your twist carefully as it will determine what bullets you shoot. mine is a 1-10 and shoots everthing from 55 thru 100's.

shot a few chucks with it as well as a deer this year. very accurate, low recoil and report. slams an old coyote to the ground with a style of it's own.

the 6 tcu is very simular to my 6x47.

the 6 X 47 is a old benchrest round and it was replaced by PPC we have today so it's a very good round just about the best you can get for squeeks and yotes out to about 400 yards and far better then sub .243 when the wind kicks up...It's kinda a hiden diamond in the ruff so shhhhh.....many have forgoten about it....thats good for me as the price of the 222 mag brass has come down some. The best of the 3 6 X 47 is on top now if you AI the 6 X 47 it just gets better...I have both 6 X 47 and 6 X 47AI

Red,
I do believe it is a custom only die.... but when you order your reamer from PG&T order a sizer reamer as well then you have it...thats what I have done on a few of the rounds you can't get a commercial die for... just like setting up for a wild cat...also by ordering your reamer from PG&T you can build it the way you want it no turn tight chamber the brass will last forever...What I have done with my 6X47AI is ordered a die blank cut it with the chamber reamer and installed a neck bushing then used the sizer reamer to make a bump die when the brass gets a little tight I hit it with the bump die and then the necking die and were good for 3 more reloads then bump it again and trim...once you AI a cartridge it doesn't grow like the parent case does...

It was a solid pilot reamer from PTG closeout a whole $45.00. Set up for 70 gr. bullets. Should make a fine Prarie dog round .
Been told the Redding 223 Ackley bushing die will work for sizing . Not into tightnecks , buddy has one and will not do another . To much work to reward ratio.
Gave up on the 223 a few years ago. Had a 6mm Remington barrel that was shot out in 1500 rounds and have 22-250 with about 3000 rounds that will probably get new barrel next winter. The 22-250 is the KING of the dogtown as far as i'm concerned. Those barrels can get very hot in high volme fast action dog shooting.

Thanks to everyone for input on this project .

I can't speak for the 6x47AI, but I do have the std 6x47 and love it. Dies are not hard to find and fireforming is easy. One pass with the 6x47FL die and your through. In mine fireforming rounds shot as well as formed and the FL die does such a good job opening the neck that there isn't really anything to form, it looks done when you size it. Mine is a heavy bench gun but I'm in the process of building another in a repeater.

I considered the 6 x 47. Dies on ebay and a few vender sites. I thought an Ackley sounded interesting.

I have a 6 br on a Savage precision rblp action ,McGowen barrel .Winter set in an all i have done is looked thru the scope down in the basement. Hopefully the weather will break and i can break in the barrel and get a 100yd sight in .

Hard telling how long this new venture will drag out. Would be neat if it was done for the spring Prarie dog trip .

Just make sure your reamer and dies are not for the very popular 6x47 Lapua very different case.

I shoot a 6x45mm and a 6mm-204 Ruger. The 6mm-204 is pretty much a 6x47 IMP. with the shoulder moved forward and 30 degree shoulder. It would be like a 6x47 AI but there is no fireforming needed as it is a straight neck up. For dies I use a Redding 204 Ruger Type "S" FL Bushing die with the guts changed out to 6mm and the openning at the top of the die oppened to get the larger necks to the bushing. I had a 6x47 barrel here and just ran a 204 Ruger Reamer with a 6mm pilot and used a 204 Ruger Go guage to headspace it. 55's are running 3700fps and 62gr VG's at 3600fps. It is a great coyote rig.

I also shoot a 22-204 40gr at 3900fps 22" barrel and a 25-204(257 kimber clone), 100gr Partitons at 2800fps my deer gun.

Refer to the loading thread 6x223 page, page 2. There is a link with over 30 pages of 6x45 load data on there.

This and the 6x47 perform almost identically on paper, and the gain in velocity with the .222 Mag brass is minimal. My buddy's 6x45 is an 8 twist, and shoots everything from 55 to 95gr bullets amazingly well. If I had to pick one bullet that doesn't break the bank to use, I'd grab the 60gr Sierra HP. Just one man's opinion. . . .
