I was wondering how short of a barrel I can get away with, in a 20 Practical, and still burn the power efficiently. I have an 8lb jug of BLC-2 and quite a bit of h322. Thanks for the input.

Don't know if it helps, but I use BL-C(2) with 50g Bergers in mine. It's a 9 twist Shilen 18" AR-15.

I also shoot 35g Bergers with H4895. As you can guess, velocity is down with the short barrel but it shoots well!!

I have a Sako L461 in Tac20 with a 21" barrel and it only gives up 60fps compared to my 24" TAC20. I'm shooting H322 and 32's out of it, it's not enough for me to even adjust POI when I swap ammo between the 2.

Hmmm, from what Chuck M says looks like 24" mite be where you would want to be if you want to burn all the powder. Both my 20 tac's are 26 " Hvy S/S brls with Vias Breaks. I get to see all the Hits &/or misses. Have made kills out to 311 yds with no hold Over. My 2¢ Russ.

Your MV gain from a 22.5 to a 24 inch barrel will be close to nil.

I have some BLC 2 that I load and it will push 34 Gr Varmint Extremes at a hair over 3900 fps.

The powder choice will depend more on the bullet you select.

32gr. bullets my best accracy and MV come with H4198 to over 4200 fps
34 Gr. H4198 and H322 4000 fps plus
40 Gr RL 7, RL10 H4895 to 3900 fps.

Blc 2 will not give you top velocitys but I've had some pretty good accuracy loads with it. However best accuracy over all has come with H322 and H4198.

[I Read a recent test that started with a 26" barrel and went down an inch at a time on the chrono, and found 23" was the sweet spot.Had intended to go to 18" or lower.
