19 badger vs. 19-223

This maybe blasphemy to some. I was thinking of changing my 19 badger to a 19-223. I have about 1600 rounds down the tube now of the badger. I think I would rather have the 19-223 for going after coyotes. What all do you think I would have to do to make this happin? Rechamber barrel, open up boltface, new magazine and correct extractor? Who would you think best to do this work? I left a message for Jim and will post his responce when I get it.

Thanks

I also may just pull the barrel and sell it along with dies, brass and 2-300 32 grain hp's and put a nice 204 ruger barrel. Have lots of brass and nice dies for that on hand now. IF it's not too much to mess with the bolt/extractor and mag....

pot'head,
Some people think the 17 AH is good to go for coyotes.Your badger should be adequate at the right range. If you want 'Further' get more case capacity. jmo.

Been a long time since I could be called that:). I've never shot a yote with anything under a 204 ruger so I guess I just worry the badger isn't enough out to say 400 yards. I take that back. I shot one coyote with the badger but could never find him after we went after the second yote. Searched and searched but saw nothing in the tall scrub. Know he was hit because he spun around twice after a nice sounding thwap. Love the rifle and it is the most practical rifle I have for calling. Haven't called much and am sure with practice I should be able to get them in closer. Also not a fan of the badger brass.

Assuming this is a CZ?

I would probably sell the whole thing, as is, with dies, bullets, whatever you have left...and build, or buy a 20 cal something based on a 221, 222, or 223 cartridge. I would even consider a 222 Mag based(204R):D

This is assuming that you have to sell the 19, to get the job done. If you don't have to sell it...don't. My self centered self, loves going to the range and being asked..."whatch'a shootin' today?" 19 Badger. "A what?"....

I love that!

Dope'head, Te He?

Didn't realize you were talking about 400yds! Deff. need more than a badger if you want 'em drt. Just finished playing with my 19FB (badger more or less) and wouldn't entertain shootin' our small foxes at 4oo yds with that. JMO.

Larry it is a CZ in a kevlar stock, hugger low scope rings and James's modified bolt handle. Has a leupold 4.5x14 on it too. It's my go to rifle and could sell it....but don't want to. I have one other light rifle but its a wssm and feeds very poorly so won't take it after yotes until if and when I can get it to feed reliably. I'm not convinced I need to do anything regarding the badger....if you guys think its plenty then I would trust your opinions more than my own on this.

J&G Sales has CZ 527 American's in 204R on sale right now for 499.00.
Seems allot less expencive and easier to simply buy one and go hunting.

Deadly Duo...

I'm with RePete,
Buy the 204 CZ at $499!!! Sell the Badger as a package deal! Or, keep it! I will wager you will sorely miss your Badger!! A Badger-204 combo is a hard to beat duo! Badger: anything under 300yds. 204 for the distance shots!
JMO!
Love those Calhoon's!!!:D

For coyotes @ 400 yards you are asking to much from ANY caliber less than .22 for reliable kills. The ft/lbs of energy of a 55 gr bullet from a 22-250 at 400 yards is TWICE that of a 204 Ruger & even more than that from a 19-223. All you have to do is look at the energy levels of ANY of the sub 22 cal rounds @ 400 yards & know that they are inadequate for RELIABLE kills on coyotes @ that distance. What you will gain by going to a 19-223 over the 19 Badger is irrelevant @ 400 yards with regard to killing affect. The 19 Badger is a wonderful "fur friendly" round that will anchor coyotes at reasonable hunting distances & not blow the hide up to where it is worthless. Save your money, you have all you need. OR, if you want to shoot coyotes at ridiculous ranges get a 22-250 or 243 & be able to actually kill & not wound them.
