new BRNO purchase (ZKB680 Fox Md2 in .222 Rem)

stumbled here whilst researching my latest purchase

just picked this up yesterday.
I had a choice of 2 and I "think" I picked the right one!

the other model was stamped "77" on the barrel and had a round profile and hollow ball tipped bolt handle. was a bit more beaten up.

This one is stamped "88" and has the flat profile bolt handle.
seem to be in good condition, little bit of pitting.

it is completely stripped and I am probably going upset some people but it is off to be screwcut for a moderator this afternoon!

I would be interested to know if the 88 is 1988, seems very late to me.
any info people might have would be great

anyway pics:

That's a good score I have two BRNO FOX II a 17AH and a 222 neither has the original barrel on it but I believe the year is stamped on the original barrels
Cheers Ivan

thanks

what year and bolt style are yours?
have stripped it to component parts,
cleaned the barrel and it has a bit of pitting but it will shoot I am sure

the ejector "collar" has been snapped and was only held in place by the clamping effect of the ejector claw

any idea where I can get spares? cant seem to find any for the older model on the web

A member on this site called TOU is the resident expert on BRNO and CZ firearms he might be able to help you regarding where to source parts.
My FOX's have the rounded bolt handles and from memory the hornet was stamped 79 on the barrel, the 222 had a replacement barrel on it when I got it.
Any way welcome to the wonderful world of small caliber's, before you know it you will HAVE to put a 20 or 17cal barrel on that 222 :D
222/20 is what I have planned for my one

jcb nice looking rifle, the "88" stamped into the reciever and barrel does mean that it was made in 1988.

While I've seen quite a few Brno Fox II's they have all been date stamped earlier than yours and have all had the round bolt knob, your bolt knob looks more like my CZ 527 bolt knob.

I wonder if the CZ527 collar will fit your bolt?.........Kiwi

other rifle?

jcb,

Was the other rifle a 222 Rem also? What did the seller want for the one you didn't buy?

I had a 22Hornet version of that, 1984 dated. Flattened bolt knob as well. changed to K hornet then later 17/222. some idiot went and sold it .:o

I picked up a 22 hornet not long ago, stamped on the receiver ring CZ 527
on the left side of the receiver, like yours BRNO ARMS. its dated 1990. TOU and I descussed this one and believe it be a transitional unit from the FOX to the 527. It also has the double set triggers.

At the moment its getting a take off CZ hornet barrel that's been re chambered to 5.7 Johnson. Kept the original hornet barrel as is so TOU did'nt come and throw stones on my roof:eek:
