getting a 222 remington built

I dropped off one of my rifles to get re-barreled in 222. I decided on a 1-14 twist since I am only going to be shooting 40 and 50 grain bullets along with some of the 52 grain match bullets and Its going to have a shilen #7 contour.

anyways I was hoping to here what you all h think and what your experiences have been with the 222 remington.

and also what you think of the 14 twist with 40gr v-max's. thanks in advance.

My only experience with this round was a factory 700 BDL deluxe, my buddy talked me out of. I still regret selling it.

It was very accurate with 52 gr sierra's, benchmark, and Rem primers, using rem brass. I don't think you could go wrong with this cartridge.

I would tell you to consider 221 FB, but the issue of the brass would come up. It has been a non-issue for me. I haven't had any bad brass, yet.

Good luck with the build, you should be happy with it.

actually, I already have a 221 fireball and i love it. I would like to have a 221 with a match grade heavy barrel though, maybe that will be next or maybe a 20 cal. I dont know there is so many I want to hard to decide.

Uh, yeah! 20 VT is good. Lots of fun.

50 Gr bullet with 23 Gr of BLC-(2) or 20 gr. of RL7 has always worked very well in all my .222's

My Old ADL loves the 40gr. Vmax. The group size really tightened up.
Which makes me wonder if a little faster twist might be in order.
Just a thought.
Gotta love the 222 !

I have a Sako 75 in 222 Rem, well for another couple of months at least then it will be a 17 Rem. It is a 1-14" barrel and I use the 40 grs Nosler Ballistic Tips and Hornady V Max exclusively for shooting foxes and corvids. It performs well. Although with foxes I always get an exit wound unless shot in the bib, hence trying the 17 Rem.

Andy, I have not played with 40's much. It has been on my wish list but time has not permitted. A while ago I spent a lot of time reading and gathering information. I was able to spend a considerable amount of time on the range. Some of it is posted at www.tripledeuce.net most of the rifles are factory Remingtons. Hopefully you will enjoy it and perhaps find it useful.

Keep us posted,
Peter.

Andy

While I don't have a custom rifle in 222 I do have an assortment to choose from, a 788, a Ithaca lsa55, Steyr Mannlicher, and a Kimber of Oregon Custom Classic.
I love shooting all of these. The load for the Kimber is with 50gr TNT bullets and it is 23.1gr of 322, the 3 other I used 1 load for and it is a 40gr vmax with 21.5gr of Reloder 7. I have gone as high as 22.0gr with reloader 7 and it worked well with the Vamx bullet but not so hot with the ballistic tip. SX

superx and toby-

what size groups are you getting with the 40's

I am starting to second guess my decision and I am wondering if the 14 twist is going to be to slow and prevent me from getting .5 inch or less groups with the 40 plastic tips?
