We are talking 'large pistol' powders here. They do work and with lighter bullets, can achieve the same velocities as the 'normal' powders would produce. The case will have a lot of air space in it and there is definately less muzzle blast. In my mini-14, although I was getting good velocity, the action did not have enough movement to pick up another round - but did eject the fired case. I was only doing tests over a chronoghraph and for groups. Did not shoot great in my rifle. (I did get good, reduced load accuracy using 'small pistol' powder).
