Default It just came to me.

I was told the guy in the 'fur barn' picture is Marty Senneker from Hays, Alberta, Canada.

Good to know, thanks.
Marty must be a heck of a hunter and I certainly hope he doesn't mind it surfacing here. I know I for one am duly impressed! Looks like he has about a dozen cats in there as well up on the top row between the foxes. That's the nicest fur coat I've ever seen on a barn.

Default Marty Senneker's Barn pic and numbers

As the gentleman referenced above, Marty is from Hays, Alberta and has taken 9891 coyotes since 1991. 98% have been taken with snares and traps. He has broken 900 in a season (5 months) twice with 907 in 2000-2001 and 953 in the 2006-2007 season. Jim

To bad the prices aren't what they were back in the late 70's, he'd have a new pickup and then some hanging on that barn.

Default Marty

Marty is also a fur depot location for North American Fur Auctions, that explains all the fur on display.

Ah-ha! The plot thickens .
Does sound like he's quite the hunter if those numbers are accurate and you fellas must have way more than your share of coyotes up there. I'm sure all the Montana and North Dakota sheep ranchers would appreciate your keeping them.
All the work that barn hanging took makes me think I'm right on the bored part too.

Default why would anyone bother...

Yes, trying to hang that many pelts ...that high into the air in windy southern Alberta. That'd be a full day putting them up and another day to take them down. Not sure why anyone would wanna bother !

Default Marty's not a hunter but a snareman and fur trapper

Al, your statement that Marty is a NAFA depot insinuates he "needed or used" other peoples fur to cover the barn. A man that catches 700 -900 coyotes a year and puts up all his own fur doesn't need to use someone else's fur for a picture of less then 400 hides.

As to why someone would take the time to put up pelts on a barn, its an ego thing. Being a fur trapper, I've seen pics of huge numbers of mink, fox, beaver etc. If you ever look in the back of Fur Fish and Game magazines its full of pictures of hides that show off trappers success. Its a trapper thing but also a guy thing. Some people mount fish or deer or bear etc. Trappers take pics of their catch prior to selling it. Does it take a lot of time to hang all the fur? You betcha, but trappers keep doing it so must be worth it to them. Jim

Default Hanging fur on a barn does seem to be popular..

I supose I'd be proud too if I ever harvested that much fur.
