Default Precision Ballistics now has 6mm VLDs

I thought I would drop in to mention that I got my VLD dies and am just waiting on my tipping die that was sent today. I've made 4000-5000 so far and have shot a few as well. Made on Dave Detsch carbide dies, meplat 0.056", 15 tangent ogive, slightly rebated boat tail 0.175"x10 degrees, J4 jackets. I will sell them with the open meplat as Hunting VLDs and will close the points up with a custom made for my bullets tipping die by John Hoover. I'm marketing them in 90gr, 95gr, 103gr, 105gr and 108gr. I've made some 85gr and 88gr ones for a couple of friends with slower twists to try. I haven't shot enough to have anything fine-tuned yet, but with Lapua 6mmBR brass, CCI BR-4 primers, 28.9gr of H-4895 powder and my 105gr VLDs, I shot a pretty nice 5 shot group of 13/16" at 400 yds. without flags with my 8" twist, right out of the box Savage. 2870 fps over my PVM-21 chrono. 29.5gr H-4895 raised that around 100 fps but the groups weren't as tight. My zero and come-ups were from shooting my 95gr BTs all last season and at 100 yds my 105 VLDs shot 2" higher than my 95gr BTs did. High 1" at 200 yds, high 1/2" at 300 yds and high 1/4" at 400 yds. Pictures and description are on my site. As I don't have my pointing die just yet those pictures have to wait a bit. I'll be ready for the IBS Nationals and VHA Jamboree with my VLDs this year! Thanks Larry! I decided to add 113gr VLDs as well, and am just on my way to the shop to make some more for myself to shoot Friday in my 6mmBR. They REALLY buck the wind gusts and so far shoot as good as anything else I've made.

I have shot about 200 of PB's new 6 mm 108 grain VLDs and have acheived good accuracy so far. They are the only bullets I have fired through the barrel and it is my first 6 mm BR. When I did the ladder test I found the very broad sweet spots in both powder charge and then seating depths as I was narrowing down the load search.

Great Wade!

In addition to making 113gr VLDs, I have taken the plunge and am now doing the full Monty by building 115gr VLDs! So just in VLDs that's 90gr, 95gr, 103gr, 105gr, 108gr, 113gr and now 115gr! Of course I still make the shorter bullets as well. 33 different designs in all! Wade, if you get a target or two that you want me to post on my site let me know.

Default How’d I miss this thread for so long…?

Haven’t found anything in commercial bullet that shoots as well as think my Sako 75 Hunter Laminate should shoot, so thought I would try some of your bullets. Could you recommend a bullet for my 10” twist 22 7/16 inch barreled Sako that will be suitable for Eastern White Tail Deer? Max distance I will be shooting is 300 yds and could be as close as base ball bat range with most shots between 80 and 200 yards.
Thanks in advance… Larry

P.S.
Forgot to mention that my Sako is chambered for the 243 Winchester cartridge.

Larry try the 90 grain Hunting VLD's I run a 10 twist in my .243 BRK at 24" and you will like them. I have not been able to tell them on animals yet, but if they open like i expect They are a fantastic shooting bullet.

this is a 200 yard target first time out with no load work
