Default 5.56 ammo in 223 A.I. ???

Know no 5.56 in standard .223 chamber, but how about in a 223 improved ? Think the pressure would still jump fire forming them over ? Bill K

Any fire forming info i've seen almost always suggest the bullet be seated lightly into the lands.

We talking military ball ammo ? 77grs ?

Are you working with a custom 223 chamber or factory ? Free bore length ? Possibly reseat bullet a little deeper.

Do you have a Stoney Point tool to measure to the lands ?

If it were me, id' sand bag it down and try 1 to 5 rounds to see. Long strong string on the trigger. Use this info for what you paid for it.

Standard 223AI chamber, with thought of 62 grain green tips. Most Ackley chambers will take standard ammo and then the case is fire formed to the Ackley. No really need to touch lands. This is why I think () they would work just fine, but wanted to get some opinions. ( I thank you for yours) the long string might be a good idea. Bill K

Ackley chambers are supposed to chamber on the neck/shoulder junction, not by the bullet ogive contacting the lands.

So, it depends on your chamber, does your AI chamber have a long lead? ...or standard 223 lead?

Standard, had gunsmith take one of my Rem 700 s/a in .223 and re-chamber to .223 AI, with slight set back on barrel, to set head space. Nothing fancy on the rifle/chamber. Bill K

Shoot one and see what you get. If it worries you tie it to a tree and shoot it with a string. Larry

Unless there's something grossly wrong with rifle or ammo you'll be ok.

Thank you for the answers, all of you. Will try a couple in another day or so and then will report what occurs. Bill K

I've done it a lot, but with that said, one of my friends dropped a round of Hornady Tap ammo at the range, I picked it up, put it in my .223AI chamber, and popped a primer. It's never done that with NATO spec ammo, or hot reloads.
Has me re-visiting the safety glasses issue...
