Default 25 grain load 17 HH

Hello all: I am getting closer to working up loads for the 17 HH and I am confident for 20 grain projectiles H4198 will work out well along with 1680 if I can find any will work fine. Perhaps the same propellants for 25 grain projectiles.

When looking over Load data, Accurate 2200 looks promising for both 20 & 25 grain projectiles.
Has anyone here personally experimented with 2200 in there 17 hornets? If so what kind of accuracy and extreme spreads or SD had been experienced with the 2200?

Any other propellants I should be giving closer consideration?

Thank you!

I use 2200 exclusively in my CZ Varmint 17HH with 20 gr. V-Max. I am getting about 3570 fps. with a SD of about 27 and groups under 1/2". I have shot a lot of 1/4" 3 shot groups with 13.0 gr. and while fireforming with 12.2 gr.

Happy for you that your CZ Varmint is treating you well. Thank you for sharing.

Anyone out there finding a favorite 25 grain projectile combination they wish to share a little experience with us?

I started investigating 25gr loads in my CZ 527 17 Hornet, originally using ADI 2219 powder... fairly slow velocities:

Then started using ADI 2207 for 20gr loads, but 110% capacity as loads approach maximum meant fiddly double staged powder charging... so switched to VV N-120.

Now starting load development on the 25gr bullet using ADI 2207, I feel it is much better suited to the heavier bullet...

Default 25g 17HH load

My load for the 25g Berger is: PRVI 22 Hornet case, Federal 205M match primer, 11.5g 1680. Bullet is seated .016" off the lands, 1.806" COAL, tip to base or 1.570" COAL with comparator. This load averages .200 inches at 100 yards, with an average velocity of 3446 fps. out of my CZ 527 24" barrel. Excellent accuracy that I did not expect from this rifle. I shot several groups under .170" inches! This same load did not group as well with the Hornady 25g V-Max., with groups around the 1/3 inch mark. I also have tried 12g 2200 with this combo. The AA2200 load produced an average velocity of 3300fps with groups around the .500" mark. I took this rifle out this past weekend to shoot prairie dogs, and DRT kills were common out to 300 yards, with my longest shots at around the 325 mark. By the way, I had to make a magazine modification so this load would work as a repeater, otherwise use a 'Bob Sled' mag adapter for single shot loading.
