Default 17 Rem on coyotes

I don`t own a 204 so i don`t know. But I have been shooting a CZ 527 17 REM for several years and like it more each time I use it. I use Hornady 25gr hp`s and have had good luck with them on any thing I have shot, coyotes, pd`s, groundhogs. But I belive the 20 & 25gr v-max`s shoot even better less than a 1/2 inch at a 100yrd. I have yet to lose a coyote or any thing else I have shot using these 3 bullets. I have really enjoyed my CZ rifle and I am so impressed with the 17rem cal that I use it a lot. I have had such good luck with these bullets I have never tried any thing else. I use H-4895 power, I have not experinced any copper or powder fouling to speak of I clean the 17 just like any of my other rifles. I can`t can`t belive I didn`t buy a 17 rem back in 1971 I have sure missed a lot of fun, but I am making up for it now. Might even look at 17 hornet. ken

I'm a proponent of the 17's for varmints and the 20's for predators. Not saying a 17 can't anchor them but have ha more success on yotes with the 20's

Default 17vs20

In my experience whacking pigs, coyotes, PD's, and beaver I'm convinced that a 20 cal will do all of it better. If your talking about trajectory, terminal ballistics, ease of loading, etc..........the 20 is better. Still like my 17's but the 20 will go where the 17 can't, effectively.

Default 45gr spire point?

Im a 20 fan and use the 39SBK. they work really well for pdogs and small varmints but for coyotes and such they can be a lil iffy depending on the shot taken. Had a coyote take two of the pills, went down on both shots and ran off to be finished off by the dogs. Both shots were not the best (texas heartshots) and just surface splashed due to the thin jackets. I had a 9 twist barrel that I had rechambered to 20 dasher and put on a model 7, just bedded it last night and am going to work up a load with the hornady 45gr spire points. anyone else tried these yet? hopefully they hold up to the velocity and RPMs and if so they should be a great coyote pill.

I don't have a lot to add other than in 17 Rem. I have switched from Berger 25gr. to Nagel 25gr. T-000 . I've had pretty good luck with the Bergers and even better luck with Genco's, but Chappie no longer makes his Genco bullets and the newer Bergers aren't performing as well as they used to.
In 204 I have used the 35gr.Berger with great results and I highly recommend them, but recently I switched to 37gr. CRT's. The 37's anchored a Bobcat at 225yds. rather nicely, but I haven't shot any Coyotes with them yet.

K22,

Did you get an exit with the 37 on the cat?

No I didn't. I was actually surprised that I didn't. Another fella I know is using them and is getting small exits on Coyotes. From what he told me, mine are probably running faster than his are in his AR, but I would say that at 225 plus yards, mine had slowed down some.
Accuracy wise, my Kimber really likes them.

Default 204 gone

I sold my 204 when my 20BR arrived. I shot coyote at 350 yds as she stood looking at me. I put a 50 gr Berger in the front of the chest. No exit. Not even a drop of blood!
