Thanks TOU,
I can feel myself slowly sucumbing the more I read about the 17H. Not had a Hornet since 1968 and I don't suppose I can remain a fully paid up member of Saubier if i don't get one soon. Be very interesting when the HH appears. Ken.

I'm not sure that the .204 is adequate for coyotes. Ive had two bang flops but at close range each time.

204?

A lot of American hunters use the 204R and 35gr Bergers with exellent results on coyotes. There's a guy on the Ruger 204 forum (Gube) from Sask. that swears by that combo for coyotes. KB.

Would it depend on rate of twist with heavier bullets? Ive shot them but at very close range with 32 gr V Max and they went down like they were shot. Years ago a .22 was used for coyotes.

mackillan,
I think 12 twist is the norm for 204R. I had mine done with a Pac-Nor 1 in 11 twist, just because some people(not all) were finding the 12 twist wouldn't stabalize 40gr vmax bullets. Another prefered bullet is the 39 BK. KB.

I'm looking for a calibre that has prerolled ammo in a gun with detachable mag. I was hoping for a sako in 17 fireball

Coyotes around here absolutely HATE the 204. Shot placement is important but, with a cartridge as accurate as this one, that should not be much of an issue. If you can take out a rodent at 250 yards, avoiding a coyotes shoulder blade should not be much of a challenge. Of course, I don't even bother squeezing a shot off if they are on the run. I know.....Off Topic.

Looks like a Tikka T-3 in .204 is about as close as you're going to get to a Sako without going custom...

I will need something for gophers in the spring. Is there a high end Rem 700 with detachable mag that comes in 17 fireball? |
