I shot this week and pleased out the second time with my savage#12 with a Brux barrel 1;14 twist 221 FireBall I shot 5 3 shot groups .172 ,339 ,.094 , .458 , .069 just testing loads . Think I'll load some more 52 gr Berger with 19.5gr of H335 that is what I shot the .069 group with . I can't post pictures because Saubier.com said that I ""You have uploaded the maximum of 0 files "" I see if I can find another way .

I have had several 221FB rifles and have used RL-7, LG & AA1680, all with good results. Best results have been 1680 for me with 40 gr bullets. Loaded 18.9 grs in my Cooper but now loading 20.2 grs in my Dakotas for 3550 fps and reasonable pressure, accuracy has been great with this load. Was up to 20.7 grs but that was a little too hot so backed it off half a grain and accuracy seemed to hold. I tried CFE BLK a couple times and velocity was good but accuracy was bad. Shoot 2200 in my VT's and 20-221AI with great results but the 1680 just seems to be "the" powder for my 221FB rifles.

There appears to be quite a number of very good shooting 221FB's here. As this thread is still alive, I thought a pic from last week was appropriate as that was the day I took my Cooper Phoenix 221FB for a stroll out into the sage and junipers for a rock chuck cruise in the rock piles and outcroppings. This ranch I shoot chucks and squirrels is not suitable for my 204's and 223's because of nearby neighbors, so the little Furball is just right.

Time was limited because of a monster remodel project at home, so I decided to just shoot one rock pile if chucks were out. One certainly was, and I was offered the typical shy chuck sight picture of just an eye and nose showing. POA was right between the eye and ear, range only 146 yards....a 'gimmie' for a quarter inch rifle.

The Nosler 40gr VG Tipped over my pet load of RL-7 did the expected damage, flipped him clear over his rock down into the rock pile. If they could, these critters would fear these rifles in 221FB.

The little 221 fireball and the 17 fireball are perfect fits for this type of a situation.

The 221FB is one of my favorite calibers also. Got a Cooper M21 Varminter back in 1998 and later picked up a CZ527 when they came out in 221FB in 2004.
