I know of several gun collections that have been sold to Cabela's. In each case, the sellers were treated very fairly for price and the transactions were smooth and trouble free. In the case of one local collection, Cabela's came back to the collectors widow with additional funds as they had undervalued several NIB S&W revolvers.

Also, does not Sportsman Warehouse sell used firearms ? Check with them and see what they can or will do, for you.

Two gun shops that are near me that sell on consignment are both full scale gun shops and not pawn shops. Maybe it's a CO thing in your situation, George?

This is just me, but selling on the internet isn't worth the hassle for not much more money in the long run after you figure in shipping and packaging crap and time, etc.

btw - both places where I've sold a few guns on consignment charge 10% of the selling price.

Default updated info

Ok, finally got the info on the pawn shop thing.

another gun store competitor with a pawn shop
complained to the pawn shop cop about Keith doing
the consignments and used guns. This is covered in
the local ordinances. Keith said "screw it, no more
used or consignments.

This should not concern other areas of the state or country.

In New Jersey that guy would need fire insurance.

It depends a lot on how much effort you want to personally put into it. The Gunbroker route would get you the most exposure, but you have to be good at taking pictures and writing decent descriptions to get good exposure. You also have to deal with shipping.

If you want simple low effort, look for a local auction house or consignment dealer as others have suggested. In our area it seems like every little town has a place that does online auctions. Some of them have once a month firearm auctions in addition to regular auctions. You just drop off your stuff and in a month or so they send you a check.

Local classified ads are somewhere in between.

Default Selling QTY

Selling firearms is like most endeavors, more effort more reward. I agree with 20Vartarg about GB, especially in this selling climate. With this caveat, the desirability of what your selling. If it's a firearm that's readily available it's a waste of time. You would be better off finding a local gunshow, buying a table for the weekend and if allowed in your state sell them FTF. High-end stuff I would sell on GB.

I would check out and see if there are any online auctions. They are very hard to beat for top dollar.

I'd be putting the word out to all my local friends and family first. might not get the most money out of the items, but the simplicity of local sells is the route I plan to go the day that it comes to that.
