Wow, I had a Rem 788 in 222 25+ years ago and it was very accurate, I ended up trading it for a L/H Jongmans Sporter in 270W.........I regretted that but then traded the Jongmans 270W for a L/H Jongmans 223 Varmint with octagonal barrel.
I have been looking for a L/H 222 for a number of years, but still haven't found one, but I digress. I remember I bought a bunch of gunparts at an auction and in the box was a brand new R/H bolt for a 308W 788, I think I sold that for around US$150 and thought I did pretty good. Kiwi |

I don’t know that I have ever seen a left hand 788 in any caliber other than 6mm and 308 and the number of 6mms dwarfs the number I have seen in 308. I think I have only seen one in 308.
They are kind of an odd duck. The ejection port is on the right side of the action. |

Bought my first 788 in .243 in 1974 for $99 at Best Wholesale in Greensboro, still have it, still original, still very accurate. Picked up a 6mm a few years ago, got a wild hair and my Gunsmith had a brand new 6CM reamer he'd only used to chamber a barrel for himself. What the heck...Brux turned a barrel to the factory contour but 24" finished, a Boyd's Maple stock, Timney trigger, Sightron STAC 4-20x scope.
At 1000 yards it holds 1/2 MOA with Hornady Match ELD 108's for three shot groups, the factory contour heats up and will open up after that. Not bad for a $1200 all in rifle. |

Nice looking, that sure is a light colored Maple stock. Or is it the lighting on the rifle ?

Gerald, nice stock design, really dresses that old girl up.

That’s an attractive stock. Wish I could buy one like that for a sad looking Remington 582 I have here. Boyd’s 541/580 series stock offerings don’t do a thing for me.

It's that light colored, it was one of their "Rapid Fire" products...not what I'd hoped for grain wise but it's very functional.

Even being light in color and without a lot of the grain, showing or coming out, it still is very nice looking.

I’ve done quite well on Rapid Fire stocks. It’s not that I check it daily, I just get lucky fairly often.

I've gotten a couple, they're usually a good value and this one is pretty distinctive, just had hope for a bit more visible grain but you can't have everything.
