Default 20VT at the range

I just got this back from Bob Green a few weeds ago, its a 722 REM. with a Lilja REM varmint contour barrel 22" 1-12 twist with a .232 neck. I fire formed some used brass, them turned the necks just enough to take off the high spots. This target is at 100 yds. with very little wind. 17 grs of Reloder#7 & Sie. 32 gr. bullets, at different seating depths. Nothing really bad or wonderfully good. I am going to use the same loads again and move to 200 yds. its a beginning.

Thumbs up

Haven't tried RL7 yet but had really nice accuracy with H4198.

Looks like it has a lot of potential.

17 grains is pretty mild & I doubt over 3500 fps. I shoot 18.5 grains RL7, 7 1/2 primer, 32 V-Max .020" off the lands @ 3700 fps & .25" groups. Bump it up a little & your groups will become one hole. 18.6 grains H4198 shoots lights out also.

No those numbers have nothing to do with group size.

The next thing I do is duplicate, these test loads at 200 yds. Then I will start testing different powder charges. The group top right measures .508 so like I said its a start.

The ONLY powder I've ever used in 3 20VTs (2 Coopers and a Sharp Shooter Supply built Savage) has been H4198. All 3 rifles were long range Varmint Silhouette match winners with 40 gr V-Max and 39 gr Blitzking (identical accuracy with my load) over 17.7 gr of H4198 lit by Federal 205M primers. All 3 rifles were 1-12" twist barrels. Good luck with your search for the right combo. Regards, Charlie
