did a sarch on the forum and nothing , why hasn't someone necked it down to 17, has to exceed the 17 vha velocities by a wide margin.

I picked up some 22 TCM brass. Got it necked down to 17 but no barrel chambered yet. My plan is to run a 17 Fireball reamer in "short" and load the round. 6 to 8 grains of powder should get the job done.
The 17 VHA is in the works also.
As far as how fast it will go, won't know till I get it to go BANG!

I think the FB reamer is a little tight at the shoulder, I made a sizing die for a TCM to 20 Cal. by running my 17 FB reamer in short in a blank die, then reaming the neck to size it to 20. Larry

QL lists the 22TCM at 16.8grains of H2O and the 4.6x30 at 14.4
So the 17TCM should be in 17HH territory.

Search ray h and 17-20 boomer. It's been done. And the 22 TCM has nothing to do with 9 mm. Not even close. It's longer. It's based off the 223 case.

What I did was neck down the 22 TCM case to 17, then ran it up into a 17 Fireball die to make sure the shoulder hadn't spread out.
Next step will be to run a 17 caliber mandrel in the neck then the case into a "shortened" 17 Fireball die. If I form with the Fireball die, it should match the reamer. One step at a time.

The availability of TCM brass has me all giddy inside. Don K. sent me a Boomer case and all I can say is that I am happy I didn't build the Shrew a few years back. A 22TCM case necked down to 17 caliber with a 40 degree neck appears to be as close to perfection as one can get. I can't wait!! I look forward to hearing everyone's progress reports on their projects as they go forward.
