Default What Happened to the .17 HMR TNT Bullet???

I haven't bought and CCI .17 HMR TNT in awhile, because I have plenty, at least for awhile, and was looking at some today in the store, and noticed it was sporting a black tip! Looks like a black tipped V-MAX. Why bother, if it is the same. Is there some difference, other than color of the tip? I'm going to miss the original TNT bullet...

I'm curious as well. I was thinking of getting some. I've heard they are a little less explosive then the vmax with a little more penetration. Kinda between the vmax and the xtp.

The CCI 17HMR (17gr TNT) load appears to currently be in stock at Cabelas.

Default But Which Bullet???

The TNT bullets you used to get were HP. The ones I saw at Gander Mountain, had black polymer tips and looked like the red tipped V-Max, which were sitting next to each other on the shelf. If they are just alike, why bother to offer both? If there is a difference, what is it??? I'm gonna miss the original TNT bullets...

It is my understanding that CCI loads all 17HMR ammo except the Winchester brand and that the color of the polymer tip of the 17gr V-Max loads varies by brand.

My point is, the TNT bullets were hollow points and now they have polymer tips, why the change???

I would guess that it is a aerodynamic marketing thing
and it might be a little bit more explosive. Bill K

CCI shows the 17 HMR 17 grain TNT loading as current production. They do however have a 17 grain V-Max loading with a black polymer tip. It is possible the V-Max might have been packaged incorrectly and ended up in a TNT box. Did you purchase any of this ammo, if so can you post a picture so we can see it?

IIRC, The TNTs are hollow point Speer bullets. Maybe Speer quit making them?
