“Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.” - Winston Churchill

There are some doubts as to whether Churchill ever said it, but it seems relevant....

for all you who have raised children; all i can say is "god bless you." but, i've dealt with several college grads that came to me for a job(actually, most of the asking was by their parents)when they couldn't qualify for a job in their area of study. i don't have a college degree like them, but it quickly became apparent they had the degree, but i had the education.

Default The Mona Maker.....

"They" say, the last time in History when a single individual REALLY could know most everything was in the 16th Century-and the man most often thought to be that man, was Leonardo Da Vinci. When he was 19, he probably DID know everything!!!! What "downer" for HIS Old Man!!!

I hope the next time you see that girl you ask her if and why she's gonna vote for Oblama!

I can remember many a time while working on one or another of my old cars breakdowns when I asked Dad how to do something: Re: how do I get that broken axle end out of the gears?" I'd seen him rebuild one engine and put timing gears/chain on another one. Yet no matter how deep I got into a trans, differential, or engine he always knew the answer. Funny thing, in his last 15-20 yrs he called and asked me lot's of those same kind of questions. Now that he's gone, who am I gonna ask?
Great thread.

The girls at the credit union can't spell: bureau, to save their butts. On the 3rd I had one type out a c/u check to pay my taxes with: She spelled: Assessor, aCCesor I asked the mgr lady to come over and look at it. She didn't have much to say. I had 'em all red faced by the time I left. All you girls have graduated within the last five yrs or so, my class just had our 50th and I can out spell everyone of you, can anyone tell me why??

What really bugs me is reading the ad's in the paper. No wonder they're down to two pages!

Default Over the years....

I have tried hiring the young ones to do tasks around the house, mowing, weed eating, etc, damn! You have to stay with them the whole time and show them how to do everything and still they can't do it. If you want a sample of what your tuition money is paying for look at my hate page... Woo wee! http://varmintsforfun.com/hate-mail.html I asked pops if I was that lazy or stupid when I was young, he said no....because he kept his work boot stuck in my butt! Lord help us all.....

Actually boys, part of my schoolin was a bit of lecture by the little lady on the virtues of O'blahblah. On my office wall i have one of those signs:One Big Ass Mistake America

She pointed at that and told me that guys like me and her dad, "Were being spoonfed the koolaid (Wasn't koolaid drinking a liberal thing last election?) by the rightwing propaganda machine of the NRA, and those lying sacks of sh*t at Fox News." Then she explained that the REAL fact was Obama was not a gun grabber. He had no history of gun control. That he had stated repeatedly he wasn't interested intaking peoples guns. And that he had much bigger issues to handle fixing all the messes the do nothing Repubs had heaped upon the country. (I'm guessing a chronology of Congressional control wasn't included in the history course!) The only real gun controller in the election is Romeny ( She might have gotten that one right - but that's for another rant!) She also allowed that he had save us all from a great depression, had completely turned the economy around, and the only real mistakes he had made was not holding out for totally free health care for all, and of course not pushing the free collage for everybody programs. Because of course an enlightened nation would not look down upon such things because they are only right. Besides, they are FREE. The government pays for it. How people could be opposed to something that cost them absolutely nothing was just beyond belief!

This was actually the part where my friend started to look like he wanted to drop dead right there. (It really was a hillarious look on his face - I wanted to feel pity for him, but it just tickled my funny bone too much - Schadenfruede I guess)

Hard to believe that these kids really buy into this stuff the way they do. But sadly it does start early. Our school hired a Superintendant a few years back who addressed the community by announcing that they were not going to teach the romantic traditions of the three R's, as much as they were a more "Social Agenda" , That his view, and now the view of the school system was that it was much more important to improve our childrens social awarness and focus than it was to weigh them down with the burdensome structure of traditional educational practices.

Man, we live in a really rural area here. It's all farmers, and loggers, and rednecks who chase coyotes and bears. Hell my nearest neighbor never owned a TV. And when his wife died and he had to go into the nearest town (20 miles away) He said that he hadn't been more than six miles from the house in fifty years. (There's a general store about two miles from the house that had everything they needed.) Didn't even know they had put in a highway about ten miles from his house. It had been a dirt lane last time he'd seen it! Thing is this guy ain't all that rare around here. And this liberal nitwit comes in and says he's gonna teach socialism as a primary course to all our kids. People were pissed - And it still took 8 years to get him out of the school system!!!!! State and Unions backed him up repeatedly as people tried to get him ousted. There are plenty of good teachers. But the system is stacked against them for sure at the state and federal level. I'm sure this jerk is not uncommon, and they start in on our kids at an early age about how they are "entitled" to this that and the other thing. They tell the kids all the time they are smarter and more enlightened than their parents. It's really a wonder any of them get a chance to turn out right!!!

The wife and I got lucky I guess. As Alex put it, my high school senior is a bit right of Attila. Wore a T-Shirt to school one day - Map of the USA, with states colored in either Red or Blue. Legend underneith reads something like " Red=Republican States Blue= Winey, bitchy, crying, can't stand the truth loser states. A teacher complained, the principal (Her husband) threw a fit, told him to take it off or he was kicked out. Kid refused. Wife went to pick him up from school, and asked if that shirt was banned by dress code. And the Principal said no but it was too politically offensive, and disruptive. She said OK see ya in court. Kid was back in class about five minutes later - wearing his shirt. I was kind proud of both of them (Never new the wife was such a good poker player till then!!!)

I think a saubier member got it right a few weeks ago, he posted " All kids should be made to leave home by the time they're 16 whilst they still know everything"

Default The youth of today

I'm not necessarily ready to label the youth of today a total waste. Especially looking at a pic of me sitting on a Harley, hair down the middle of my back at Dripping Springs TX in '73, taking in Willy Nelsons 4th of July Picnic. They will have a harder road to hoe than we did, hopefully they will come out of their self induced fog.

My daughter was sitting around our dining room table with 5 other young ladies last year preparing for a Youth In Government debate down in Austin TX. Suddenly the conversation veered to the new Health Care legislation and several of them voiced they thought it was good, didn't see any problem with it. Couldn't help myself, I cruised through the room and said I hoped they liked it since their generation would be paying for it. Talk about "deer in the headlights", they have no clue.

Well, maybe my friend will get her straightend out yet. My new blue salts came in this morning. And I called my friend to tell him I'd get the His Ruger blued Saturday. He told me that his daughter pulled that "Obama crap" on her mom after they got home. Moms a truck driving, rifle shooting, farm girl of a sort of old school nature . . . There was apparently a loud and one side conversation. May not have changed the youngsters opinions, but it seems her delivery tactics might have been adjusted

Dads gonna take her out shooting when the blueings done. Kid used to be a hell fire fan of pistol shooting. Figures maybe he'll jog her memory. I figure he's right, she's a good kid just full of the usual crap they all get full of when they go away for a while. I mean after all, we took an old Blackhawk, rebarreled it to 32, fit a new 6 shot cylinder and chambered her up for 327. New lock work, light trigger, and he's got some pretty stag grips that are going on it for now. How hard would your heart have to be not to have fun with that???!!!

Back years ago when I was in Graduate school at The University of Texas, I was on the porch of my apt loading Ammunition (45 ACP) with my beloved Lee Loader. A boy friend of a girl next door came up and gave me a ration of crap about guns the NRA etc (he was from CT). I listened patiently then asked him if he had ever shot a firearm. Up shot was that we went shooting that afternoon and within two weeks he owned 2 pistols, a rifle and a shotgun - and was a member of the dastadly NRA. Amazing how much fun it is to shoot.
