Lehigh Defence Bullets
Going to try some in my .20VT and .20 Tac in the near future. Has anyone had experience with this lead free bullet. They have a nice website.

Yes, I have the 18gr .172" chaos bullets, good price, very satisfying WHOP on squirrels. Not excessively picky about velocity, picky about seating depth and jump to lands, these are easily an M.O.A. bullet. You should have a very clean barrel to start, use some HBN in the barrel or on the bullets, that will help if your bore is a bit rough.
I've tried a few bullets, Lehigh Defense are pretty good compared to others. |

Long answer: It depends on what the case capacity is of the cartridge you are sending it downrange with. MP300 in a 4.6x30mm HK case formed to 17VHA 40 degree shoulder. This gives case capacity of 12.75gr of H2O load is 8.8gr with a Rem 7.5 SR Mag primer. or a 9.7+gr of H4198. Velocity with each is around 3250fps depending upon seating depth. Seating depth with these should be OFF the lands not engaging them as you can and actually should do with the GSC Solids at 17 and 19gr each. With the 20 coming your way from PA and your powder of choice being H4198, I would not hesitate to load it in everything up to a 17-223. My best powder in my 17FB and 17M4 actually is H4198, it is also a very close second and actually should be my first choice for all bullets in smaller .172" cartridges such as the .17HH. the 17HH has a typical case capacity of 14.2 to 14.4gr H2O, my 17 VHA 40 deg shoulder is a little less, and it still prefers H4198 for all bullets of 25gr and up. The reason I like it better than MP300 is that it never reaches max pressure for my 17VHA even loading a case full with a 25gr bullet, and this allows my cases to last a long time. MP300 can cause you to wreck your rifle if you are not warry about the loading pressures and especially so near max pressure loadings. However with a smaller case such as the 17VHA, it is the one that outperforms them all with 17grain to 20grain bullets when it comes to velocity and a reduced muzzle flash. My barrels are 16.25" & 18.75" for my 17VHA, 21" for my 17M4 and 26+ for my 17FB. H4198 performs well in all of them, and in my 17FB Rem 700, it gives the top velocity while still being sane with regard to pressures. 17fb 26" REM 700 SPS H4198 CASE FULL TO BOTTOM OF NECK CCI BR4 17gr GSC SP solid Last edited by 17tbs; 06-13-2018 at 12:20 AM. |

The MP300 does well at 8.8gr to 8.9gr MP300 and does not torture the brass, it puts tehm into pretty small clusters and the powder burns cleanly using a Rem 7.5 SR primer. My rifle is by no means designed as a bench rest rifle, so groups under an inch are going to make me happy. MP300 and H4198 do that as long as I steer the pointy end of the rifle in the right direction. H4198 seems to more easily allow smaller groups in my rifle from low to high velocities. MP300 has a sweet spot at about 90 to 95% max load when the bullets are just off the lands. The Lehigh bullets are bronze, they are supposedly going to offer more resistance to engraving from the lands. So, with these, I would stick to H4198 because it is nearly impossible to overload a 17Hornet with it even using a case full topped with a 25gr Hornady HP. Incidentally the 17Hornet case full of H4198 is how one wildcatter used to load the 25gr Hornady HP, and if I load my 17VHA to the middle of the case neck and top it with a 30gr Kindler Gold, it still does not hurt the primer pockets and cases fall out without getting stuck in the chamber after firing.
