Default .204 loading questions

I have a new Remington .204 on the way! Does anyone here have Mr. Kindlers book Terrific Twenties? I was wondering about AA2700 in this cartridge. What powders seem to work the best in this cartridge? Thanks!

Pour yourself a large cup of coffee and head over here:

There is a sticky of favorite loads, and just about every question you can ask about the .204 has been answered at one time or another.

I second the 204 ruger forum.
Most like h4895 or re10x.'

My best group has been with h4895 and the 35 gr berger

I have no experience with AA2700 in the .204 Ruger, but I did try many test loads with AA2700 and the 30 gr. Kindler Gold bullets in my .17 Remington. My experience is that it is quite temperture sensitive and up here in North DaColder I like to use powders that don't mind wide changes in temperature.

Accurate Arms does not list AA2700 for the .204 Ruger in their load data. It is out on the slow end for burn rate and may work with heavier bullets in the .204 Ruger, but be careful. I guess you could contact Accurate Arms and see if they would have a guesstimate on starting and maximum loads for you.

I have found H4895 to be one of my favorite powders for the .204 Ruger. I also use AA2520. I did use Rel 10X with the 39 gr. Sierras until I tried a different lot of that powder and had some nasty results.

I have been looking at the Rugerhunting site, but didnt see much on the Accurate powders. Thanks for the heads up about the temp. sensitive 2700. That is good to know as I was in the process of working up a .17 Rem load here in the cold.

I shoot Tac 20, but I would expect powder types (with adjustment for weights) to perform similarly. I second the use of AA2520, especially for the 40 grain V-Max. Ramshot Tac seems to work well with the 32 grain V-Max.

Default 204 Loads

My CZ Sporter likes 32 grain Sierra BK over 29.0 BL-C2. 39 BK over 28.5 BL-C2 almost as good. Winchester brass and 7 1/2 BR primers. Don't over size the cases and check their length every time. Get a Wilson case gage to check your sizing. ( My rifles headspace is a tad loose so I size accordingly).I would list my average 5 shot group size but I would not believe it if I read it.

Default 204 Ruger

I don't know what your hunting, but I'm loading 28.8gr of VihtaVuori N540 behind a 32gr V Max. Accuracy is awsome and pelt damage is minimal, but velocity is a little low 3700fps.
