Primer Pocket Reducer...
Is there a tool/system available to reduce/resize primer pockets for small caliber (less than 223). All I can find use a stabilizing rod too large for 17 & 19 & 20 calibers. I read a thread where the rod was reduced in size by cutting on a lathe, but after reading so many problems with the rod bending on the 223 sized rod, reducing the rod size seems like asking for trouble, especially to a 17 cal size. Any other options??? Thanks for your input.

This topic comes up from time to time on benchrest central. The consensus seems to be that a reliable tool for this sort of thing doesn't really exist. Once you'ce shot enough hot loads to expand that primer pocket, you probably should invest in some new brass. One thing that does seem to help for a while is to use a thicker primer. I believe there has been some agreement that the CCI primers fit a bit tighter. I would probably try the CCI 41's.

Primer Pocket Sizer
Thanks Rick,
I figured this would be the case (buy new brass). I've gotten great life from these cases and they are still in good shape. I'll try other primers before giving up. Thanks for the suggestion. Bill |
