Default Spring has sprung and 22 PPC headed to the range

Re-barreled Mod 21 Cooper with 1-12 x 26" Lilja going to the range next week for break-in, sight in and trial load development. Fitted with a 8x32 NSX the plan is to run this beauty for chucks this summer and possibly an occasional troublesome coyote over some abutting long meadows.

All that said, I have some 220 fireform loads to start with, but just received a bunch of new Norma 22 PPC brass. Will initially start with 55 gr. SBK/V-Max/Berger HP Varmints, but I also have a stockpile of 64 gr. HP Bergers that I'd like to run as well. The Berger load manual doesn't have any data for the 64s in a PPC, likely because of more common factory 1-14 twist barrels, so I'm reaching out to all you wizards that may have gone down this road before with 64s in a 12 twist PPC for guidance ---- re: powders, starting loads etc.

Would much appreciate your thoughts or comments. Tks much for your help ---- Tooter

In my experience, one can use 222 magnum data to safely load for the 22 PPC. The Hodgdon site has 222 magnum data for the 63 grain Sierra.

Default I hope it works for you.

I'm thinking mebbe the 64gr may be just past the edge of your 12 tw. I hope not. It may depend on the construction/design of that 64.

I've read here recently about a 53 that takes a 12 tw b/c of its design.

Tell us how it works out so we can stick it in our RAM.

Berger's website recommends 12 twist or faster for their 64 gr bullet.

Default Update

I just wish to let all know that the fine folks at Berger sent me a response email yesterday with loads for the 64 gr. Match Varmint bullet in a 1-12 twist 22 PPC. Guessing it will likely be an addendum to their reloading manual and to my surprise, it contains a number of powder selections that may challenge legacy choices. I'd share this data, but would need to get approval from Berger Bullets as the message has legal all over it.

Thanks, Tooter

Default If you can find the 53 V-Max...

I'd try them also, they are very accurate and explosive.
Seems like a match made in heaven,12 twist Lilja 22PPC and the 53 V-Max
with its .295 b.c.
