Default 17/222 build.

Well I think I've got the project off to a good start. E-mailed Lilja about the 17 barrel Rem contour they show in stock, waiting for answer. Last weekend lined up Pierce Eng. for there short single shot action. Waiting on the Manson 17-222 reamer, will have Pierce chamber and fit along with coating the action. Using Lapua 222 brass, and Redding match dies. Anything else you guys-girls might want to add to this build?

Default 17-222

You'll love it!!! I shoot one, except mine has a 30* shoulder. I get close to 4000fps with no pressure signs using 25 gr. V-Max bullets. Despite what others have posted about wind affecting 17-cal., I have experienced about the same wind deflection as a 20 Tactical using 32 gr. bullets.

The Vmax 25gr. has a very good BC for a .17 cal bullet.

Will probably use a HS stock. The action will take any rem after market trigger, I just happen to have a extra Jewel.
Scope Leupold 8 1/2-25x-50mm. Dies, Redding 222 rem with bushings for 17 cal. which happen to have.

Man sounds like you are building it up right. That's one 17 chamber I haven't tried yet and really want to. Make sure to post up pics as you build moves along. Good luck.

Default poor little sensitive 17's NOT!!

bumtownbutch; I shoot a 17 223AI with 25vmax or 30 Kindlers and my biggest problem in wind was over correcting. Made a good ballistic chart and followed it along with my wind meter and wow, much higher hit percentage, a very good lesson for me. sgtg out

Thumbs up You'll like the 17-222.....

Some years ago I built a PD rifle on the 17-222......actually, Kevin Weaver did the barrelling.

It's a single-shot Sako L461, with a Pac-Nor SM 3 groove 9.0" twist barrel. The chamber is a custom tight-neck, with a PTG reamer. I've since added a Canjar single-set trigger. Scope is a Leo 6.5-20X.

It shoots the Berger 30LTB, and Kindler 27BT, bullets very well.

Default .17/222

Hi to all,
I have a Sako L461 in .17/222, has a 23" Shilen Moly barrel with a 1:10" twist.
I shoot a 25gn. Hornady HP or a Berger 25gn, I get slightly better accuracy with the Bergers, as I do when I use them in my .17AH.
In the .17/222 I am using R7 and also tried AR2207 (Australian powder).
Great calibre/cartridge, wind does not seem to affect it?! Great fox hunting cartridge. Very under rated. Good to see its getting some air play on the site.

Default Sako L461 in 17-222

I also shoot a L461 in 17-222, think I'm seeing a trend here, barrel is a 22" Douglas 1-10. It's not crazy about plastic tipped 25's but does nicely with HP's, especially Chan Nagle's and RL7.
