Let the fun begin

just send your barreled action to PacNor, they'll send it back, with the barrel and caliber of your choice, ready to drop into your stock. I did and couldn't be happier.

You could probably not do better than a 3-groove PacNor in .17AH. I'd be strongly inclined toward a 9" twist rather than a 10". Some 10" twist barrels will shoot the 25gr. Vmax, some won't. It's a wonderful bullet for long range shooting. The 9" will handle the longer bullets to 30gr. or a bit more, if need be, as well as putting 20gr.Vmax's into bug hole groups.

3 grooves give up no accuracy to more lands and shoot very cleanly - no copper fouling. The fewer grooves clean quickly of powder fouling. Barrel length depends almost entirely on the shooter - what do you want. Barrel contour also plays a part here as not to be too heavy, not too light.
: Anything from 20" to 26" would be just fine, depending on the contour.
; My own .17Ahhas a shortened and re-chambered .17Rem CZ barrel. It's 22-1/2" and is perfect for the CZ varmint profile. Another inch or even 2 would also have been just fine. There is little velocity gain or loss due to barrel length with this round.
: My 22-1/2 gets 3,925fps with 20gr. Vmax and 3,640fps with 25gr. Vmax. It's a relatively easy 400yard gopher rifle although most guys like bigger rounds for those ranges.

How slow can you shoot this round and keep accuracy? Looking to make a fox gun out of my Browning. I figure I will use either 20 or 25 grain bergers.

He's talking about his .17Rem with the 3-groove not a .17AH. Its caught my attention too, But those Velocities are obtainable with the .17Rem with 30gr if you push it. Not possible with the .17AH.

A few questions for you Kenny.
Would you mind sharing this load? What kind of accuracy are you getting? Max range?

I just trying to learn about this caliber before I make a fox gun out of it.
