Default Maybe useful info; maybe not ...

In my 20 inch barrel, 13 grains of Lil' Gun (circa 2000 purchase date) and various primers (Rem and Fed pistol; CCI and Fed rifle) produced velocities around 3200 fps with the 40 grain V-Max bullets. This load ruined Winchester brass in a couple of firings (primer pocket enlargement and related phenomina). Also, this powder, when used with all primers except for Winchester small pistol, resulted in very high velocity standard deviations. The high-standard-deviation loads also produced vertical stringing at 300 yards, as one would expect.

With Winchester small pistol primers, the same charge of Lil' Gun resulted in lower velocity - 2900 fps - and also lower standard deviations. Ciruous.

In my opinion, there is no free lunch. High velocities are due to high pressures. Newton was right.

Please be careful. Wear eye protection.

Harold

In my rifle, loads using WW296 were the accuracy winners.
LilGun turned in the highest velocity, but the poorest accuracy.
YMMV

And if you are just gettin started, try Alliant 300MP, too. It gives as good as, or better, velocity as Lil'Gun, but is cleaner & more consistent in my experience.
